I am black!

Yes boss
I am black.

Am black because ma skin,
ma thought,
ma soul,
ma attitude is black.

Black the color that allures like grandeur,
And radiates with splendor.
Causes weaknesses to shiver with intensity,
And strength to quiver with curiosity.

Yes boss
I am black!

Am black because ma shoe,
ma suit,
ma root
and the route that I take to work is black!

Black the color that gives hope to the hopeless,
Caresses when shyness evoke,
Cuddles when illness provoke,
And elope when freedom promote.

Yes boss
I am black!

Am black because ma wife,
ma kids,
ma brothers and sisters are black!

Black the color that roars when oppression speaks,
And meow when freedom leaks,
Terrifies when intimidation quakes,
And encourage when joy awakes.

Yes boss
I am black!

Am black because Muta Baruka,
Malcolm X,
Thomas Sankara,
Fela Kuti,
Odinga Odinga,
Marcus Garvey,
Nelson Mandela are black!

Yes boss
I am black!

For black is not a color, No sir!.
Black is a movement, An Idea!.
One that is unique and has piqued
The minds of great minds with ideas,
That is as black as night
And as bright as day.
