In Indonesia, MaiNene is a ritual that involves unearthing, cleaning and re-dressing dead members of the family. This ritual, according to sources, has been in existence since the past century. The islanders pay homage to their dead relatives by exhuming their corpses, cleaning and dressing them in their desired clothes. The people of Sulawesi Island, wearing gloves and nose covers, exhume the corpses of their family members for Cleaning of the Corpses Festival. The ritual as reported was embraced by the Toraja and they believe that the spirits would reward them for looking after the dead. Though old traditions and cultures are still seen within their burial traditions, majority of the those that carry out this practice sees themselves as Christians and were mainly converted after the Dutch settled in that area. source: http://www.ogbongefriends.com/breakingNews/newsDetails/5074/STRANGE-FESTIVAL-CELEBRATED-BY-DIGGING-UP-DEAD-FAMILY-MEMBERS cc. lalasticlala ishilove 1 Like 1 Share
