Sexy Comes In Every Size by Nobody: 2:07am On Nov 24, 2015
This article was inspired by the song,“ you’re so beautiful” performed by  Lucious Lyon(Terrance Howard) which by the way I love and have been on repeat on my ipad for days and nights-if you are a fan of the series Empire, I bet you remember this song, the song was also performed by gorgeous Jamal(Jussie Smollett) in the white party of season one episode eight to come out of the closet publicly and in season one episode nine by the Lyons, Tiana Brown and Estelle. I especially loved the part where Lucious lyon and Estelle Fanta Swaray said sexy comes in every size, Meaning no matter what size you are you can still be sexy. This notion I believe should be promoted more often by the media to fight against body shaming-which is discrimination against body types, the role of the media in body shaming cannot be over-emphasized as every media content has a message perceived consciously or subconsciously by it viewers, be it anime, pornography or even sit-coms.

First of all (temted to say go down low,if you don’t know the song First Of All by the popular Nigerian artist Olamide then you are listening to music all wrong honey!).What does it mean to be sexy?  The word sexy is synonymous with desirable, exciting, intereting, appealing, intriguing and the list goes on.

The naked truth is that we are constantly presented with the image of what constitutes sexy on the media every day from shows like America’s Next Top Model, Africa’s Next Top Model, Miss World pageant show, the idea of the kind women men cheat with in movies, the famous curvy Beyonce,Marilyn Monroe(RIP sexy) and  Kim Kardashian, Omotola J.Ekeinde which thanks to the likes of these women curvy is now considered sexy.

In the 21st century to be sexy and considered desirable you have to belong to the two broad division of what is perceived as sexy in the world which entertainment industries has helped promoted. You have to be SLIM or CURVY? You have to be a Kim kardashian or  a Kendall Kardashian, a Beyonce or Heidi Klum; so the rest of the women that fall in between are left to feel undesirable and viewed as such by the world and even family members.

Although men are also body shamed, the target of body shaming are mostly women, so in essence women who are fat, women who become fat even due to basic natural phenomenons even such as pregnancy and child birth(the case of Kim Kardashian weight gain during her first pregnancy),women who are too skinny(Goggle Giuliana Rancic eat a burger),even Serena Williams, one of the most successful athletes of all times was and is still subject to scrutiny to her powerful looking body.

Most women who are neither curvy nor slim develop a low self-esteem because they feel even celebrities that do not fit in those ideals are body shamed constantly as such they are forced either by the society or the media to succumb by hook or crook to fall into one of the categories or even both, be slim or curvy or be even both before you feel good about your body.

In summary, Body shaming is a reality, propagated by the media especially entertainment industries they draw an invincible line in our minds as to what body size desirable and which isn’t, whether we admit it or not most media consumers subconsciously believe a fat person is not sexy and most people play a role in body shaming without knowing,it could manifest simply by nagging that  friendly fat neighbor to lose weight so they could find a suitable husband,we are often told and we often tell people to change their appearances, this has led women to be obsessed with waist shapers, slimming tea and healthy and unhealthy drugs to help lose weight, don’t get me wrong losing weight keeping fit is great, being healthy is in fact sexy, but you do not have to be a size zero, two or four if you do it only to fit into an ideal weight that was forced upon us by the media then you are doing it for the wrong reasons and this is quite damaging to your self-esteem.Body shaming not only damages self-worth it also perpetuates the idea that we should be judged based on physical appearances.

OK final summary(not kidding),the purpose of my write-up is to first urge everyone to listen to You’re so beautiful because it is dope(Joking),and secondly to remind women that sexy first comes from the inside……and lastly amd most importantly SEXY COMES IN EVERY SIZE
