As the world seeks more “dignified” ways of punishing and extracting information from suspected criminals, dreaded torture methods from crude times come to mind.
Years ago, the formula seemed to be the more horrific the better with several devices employed in centuries and decades past capable of striking fear in the minds of people who are only just reading about them. Here are some examples:

1.The Tub
The tub was a device used by Persians in the Middle Ages for brutal executions. Those condemned to die are placed in a wooden tub with their head exposed after which milk and honey are poured on them to attract insects and flies. The person would be fed regularly and forced to ease himself in the tub. The mixture of honey, milk and excreta brings about maggots which would lead to them decaying alive.

2 The Brazen
Bull Known as the Sicilian Bull, this method was thought up in ancient Greece.
To use this style of torture, a bull is cast out of brass with a human-sized belly with a door through which the victim is locked in the bull. Fire is then set underneath the bull and the victim get roasted to death.

3.Impalement
This method of execution was common in the 15th century. Victims are made to sit on a sharp pole or spear, which their weight would force to impale them through the torso with the tip coming out through their mouths.

4 Herestic Fork
The Herestic fork is a small device made out of metal having two opposed bi-pronged forks attached to a belt.To use the device, one sharp end is pushed to the neck while the other to the sternum of the victim, who is forced to hold his head up. Once it is in place, should the victim drop his head, the prongs would pearce his or her neck and chest.

5.The Guillotine
A more popular execution method, this was widely used following the French Revolution. It is an execution method in which the head of the victim is placed in the middle of a frame from which a sharp blade drops severing the victim’s head from the body.
Compared to the others, this is considered less torturous as death is instant and not a long physically painful process.

Merciless

The worst thing is that most of their victims were just poor subjects of their Kingdoms. Such things would not happen in Africa even at that time.
