Cars overheat most often in very hot weather. We are in a hot humid place and this harnattan wont laygh

It’s rare with modern vehicles, but even a well-tuned automobile can overheat. If you find yourself in stop-and-go traffic or climbing a steep grade on an extremely hot day, and your dashboard temperature indicator starts to rise or a malfunction indicator light comes on, here’s how to help your vehicle regain its cool:

At the first sign of overheating, shut off your air conditioner and open your windows: Doing so decreases the load on the engine and helps it cool off.

If you continue to overheat, turn on the heater and blower: Doing so transfers the heat from the engine to the passenger compartment of the vehicle. (This does wonders for your overheated engine but very little for you!)

If you’re stopped in traffic and the temperature gauge is rising, shift into Neutral or Park and rev the engine a little: Doing so makes the water pump and the fan speed up, which draws more liquid and air through the radiator. The increased air and liquid circulation helps cool things off.

Try not to ride your brakes: In stop-and-go traffic, crawl along slowly, on little more than an idle, rather than moving up and then braking repeatedly. Brake drag increases the load on the engine and makes it heat up. If traffic is crawling, move up only when the gap between you and the vehicle in front of you gets too large.

If you think that your vehicle is about to boil over, drive to the right-hand side of the road, open the hood, and sit there until things cool off. Remember, don’t open the radiator cap under these circumstances, and if your engine has boiled over, don’t add water until the engine is quite cool again.

If you must add water when the engine is still a little warm, add the water slowly while the engine is running in Neutral or Park.

Although hot weather is the most common cause of overheating, many other factors can cause the same problem. If your vehicle overheats in traffic in normal weather, one of the following may be the culprit:

The water and coolant level in the radiator is low.

There’s a leak in the cooling system.

If you can’t locate any leaks, your thermostat may be malfunctioning. Obviously, you can’t replace the thermostat at the side of the road. In the meantime, if you can park and get to the thermostat safely, you can eliminate this malfunction as a possibility. Wait until the engine cools down completely, and remove the old thermostat and reconnect the hoses without it. If the engine starts up and runs well without the thermostat, the old one was probably screwing up the works.

Get a new thermostat immediately if you find that your old one isn’t working. Driving for long distances without a thermostat can damage your engine.

Some other school of thought also believe in tropicalization of cars if you are in hot and humid places like Africa .

This might cause rich burning if there is anything like this but at least rest of mind is gguaranteed. If you can't tropicalise the engine please get a new thermo

The choice is all yours and the weather is all getting hotter

Always keep reasonable distance between you & the vehicle in front of you.

A cooling system is designed to be a closed system and primarily to maintain the engine internal temperature at optimal level for the best engine running efficiency and is not easily affected by external temperature unless the system has been compromised .
So in other words,so far your cooling system is intact ,the external temperature influence is negligible.

The efficiency of the cooling system is highly dependent on the radiator being able to dissipate it's heat quickly.
This can be affected by external influences such as high ambient temperature & improper air circulation even though the cooling system itself may be intact.
This is fairly more common in older cars or high performance engines.

yes u are right but that is under extreme temperature and improper air circulation (which is still a fault on the system ) now we are talking about the environment temperature .The question is how high the normal weather temperature can be that it will affect the cooling system significantly.
All this has been taking cared in the design of a cooling system.

In Engineering its called Design Limits / Design Tolerance. For a car radiator, i would guess it would be the hottest and coldest attainable temperature in that region. Most design these days are universal and region specific products are not economically viable. Th universal product would save time in designed product, save build process time, machine that builds each product and all cost related to it.
So i would say Nigeria is not near the hottest places in world so i believe most cars imported to Nigeria would "survive" the heat. So that means the Kazeems are the cause of your overheating problems.

Thumbs up for the explanation.

those suggestions are for cars how about for motor which does not have those stated functions i.e motor being managed by a kazeem

Whenever u have any overheating issue ,always remember that overheating is a not a fault itself it is a symptom of a problem .
Get to the root of the problem by looking for reputable workshop that can run a Cooling Pressure Test on your cooling system to confirm the integrity of your cooling system
You can always contact Autologic @ 08061166316 for the test.

Not a mechanic...from my experience... I go for turning on the heat to the max!....if going up hill/on level the temperature rises but drops when going downhill /braking ... the coolant level is low. If after running the engine for a while... the upper hose leading from the radiator to the engine is hot.... then there is a circulation problem.....that upper hose should be cool/just warm but the lower hose hot. The car should be taken to a reputable shop to fix the root cause....blocked hose...blocked radiator... stuck thermostat...fan...what do I know? Lastly, go extra and fill the radiator with the correct genuine coolant and not water.

hot weather is NOT the most common cause of overheating.
overheating is caused by a problem with a vehicles HVAC system, not weather.

How can a generalization be made that a problem in HVAC system is the "most common" cause of overheating? Or do you mean cooling system?
