Venue : White Hart Lane Date : Sunday, 29 November Kick-off : 12:00 GMT After the 5-3 thumping Spurs dished out in this fixture last season, now might not be the best time for Chelsea to face them given our form so far this season. Then again, it might be the perfect time if you consider the effect that defeat had on the rest of the campaign last time out. Given Spurs’ record against us, that was a shock to the system and a timely kick up the backside that saw us go on and win the title with little challenge from anywhere else. As much as it pains to say it, Spurs look impressive lately whilst we’ve limped along and haven’t yet managed back-to-back wins in the league, so the game itself doesn’t bode well for us. We might just have to hope the after effects do. MANAGER’S VIEWS Going into today’s early game, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino says “ We will make sure we will arrive in a good condition to play Chelsea. We have a strong squad and a strong mentality. It is true we arrive maybe not in the best condition to compete in the right way but [we] respect our medical staff for what they do.” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho meanwhile, on today’s opponents says “ Big clubs, they cope with difficult moments. We played a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid – Wednesday and Tuesday. In the middle we had to play Liverpool. So we play Sunday before the Champions League. If it’s not a problem for us, it’s not a problem for Tottenham. ” Whilst on Chelsea, Mourinho says “ We have to play every match as if we are fighting for the title. The reality is that we need points. We are all focused on doing our job the best we can. The only thing we can do is try to get the maximum amount of points. Our only goal now is to try to get into position where we can smell the top end of the league.” SQUAD NEWS For Tottenham, Kyle Walker, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose are set to return after being rested midweek whilst Dele Alli gets a break after accumulating five bookings. For Chelsea, John Terry (ankle) is a major doubt and Ramires will be subject to late checks after suffering a muscle problem but Cesc Fabregas (toe) is fit. TEAMS Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea (1st January 2015) [/i] PREDICTION Jose Mourinho is without a win in his last three visits to White Hart Lane and right now, doesn’t look like he could win an argument convincingly. Enough said for this one. |
