Zimbabwe crowns its 'ugliest man' in a pageant
This year's winner stole the crown from the reigning king and it was not without controversy.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but apparently ugliness is too. At least it is in Zimbabwe where they just crowned a 42-year-old man with the coveted title of, "Zimbabwe's Ugliest Man."

According to AFP, this year's bizarre pageant which took place in Harare on Friday got a little...ugly. The competition's grand prize is $500, a hefty sum in the country that faces a high unemployment rate.

The winner of the competition, Maison Sere had come in fourth the last time he competed, and according to AFP he thanked God (presumably for making him ugly) and the judges for recognizing him as the winner. Three time Mr. Ugly champion William Masvinu came third this year, stating the competition wasn't fair. "The organizers must look for new judges," he claimed while adding, "I did not lose today." Masvinu has won the competition since its inception in 2011.

According to The Week, Like most pageants, the Mr. Ugly features a catwalk and question and answer round. Speaking to the Associated Press, organizer of the event David Machowa states it's a way for people to be proud of who they are and he looks for competitors who who hold "a natural ugliness...
