My car overheats after some hrs of travelling, this normally occur once i get to the next town and get into the traffic there . Changed the radiator from one cell to double cell radiator and removed the thermostat already. I noticed that coolant from the radiator goes into the coolant reservoir tanks .Presently the car drives well in lag traffic and hardly overheat except occasionally the AC is on for a long period in traffic jams.

he is definitely right,, your head gasket is messed up and thats the reason for the backup of the coolant

Sorry to pitch in here. But I have a related problem.

I drive a 2001 passat. Mine overheats (rather, the coolant level drops and the indicator comes on) if the A/c is used for more than an hour. Or in heavy traffic without A/C. Could it be caused by the same weak gasket? Does anybody have any ideas? Will be grateful for your advice.

is ur fan working probably?

had my radiator checked yesterday. confirmed it is ok. fan is working fine too

it will have to do with electrical fault,most of the VW have computer box in them,so try take it to a VW specialist and have them check it with a computer, dont allow those road side people to bagup your car.

I want u to do a simple text in ur car, , tell someone to cover ur exhaust pipe with ur hand while the car is runnning,,, if the radiator fan turns on, then it's no electrical fault and ur head gasket is gone,, if not then check ur radiator fan fuses and fix the fan,,, u never know; it mght be that simple,

If gasket is bad, shouldnt be there traces of water in the engine oil?
