Good discussion. This is more like what people should be talking about in Nairaland and not spend time insulting each others tribe.

Just imagine the impact in a year, when good ideas are exchanged on this platform.

Nice.. But i think the ultimate 2016 idea will be skill development for business startups and training for fresh business men.

Nigerians lack skills and need to develop some skills fast, no matter how basic it may be. These skills can then be used as freelancers offering cheap and quick services to many Nigerian comapnies. They can have multiple skills, and start up new social media management companies, website creation, graphics and digital television companies. They can also train others that they can have as partners in a larger freelance firm that can sell their skills to companies who want to use the firms services.
This is our plan for 2016 at brilliantlightsmedia and we know by the end of the year, we'd have thousands who have not only acquired skills but are helping companies who'll because of the difficulties of keeping staffs on payroll in a dwindling economy enjoy steady quality but cheap services without paying overboard.

OP, a large percentage of Lagos girls that use taxis are, shall we say "business" women. They often require people with very advanced knowledge of the alleys and back roads of Lagos that GPS, Google map or NASA satellites are unaware of. With their clandestine nocturnal movements, and the notoriously insecure nights in certain parts of the city I'm not sure many women will be bold enough to handle it. Add that to the fact that women are their own worst enemies I see a situation where a "business" woman will see a female taxi driver as her chauffeur and give a loooooooooooooong hissssssssssssssss like a snake that has just liked lime

Learn How to Protect Your Savings from Inflation in Nigeria

Let no one fool thee and thou should not fool thyself, there will be sharp and noticeable decrease in your purchasing power between last quarters of 2015 and second quarter of 2016. We can say that our past leaders has not done enough in the past to put our economy in it right place amongst top economy in the world, when the economy was booming and oil price was $78 per barrel, we lost the chance and it is not coming back soon. This is action time and not a period to hurl blames on anyone. Rather, it is time to look beyond and think proactively. A lot of citizens are eager to know how to shield their hard earned savings and investments from adverse effects of inflation, I will focus on three things that has proven to be great armour in inflation battlefield over many years.
• Invest in stock; I know what is running through the minds of average citizens of Nigeria just by the mention of stock or equity, someone will say- is it not the stock that has failed millions of investors in the past? The reality is that there is no better time to invest your money on stock than this moment when the prices has fallen and there will be so many fearful owners that want to sell. If you keep that money in the bank, you are only guaranteed an interest rate of 2.5% on savings account against inflation of 9.5%. According to experts forecast, it is expected that inflation will rise to 2-digits by middle of 2016. Currently, your savings is devalued by 7% of its actual worth.
However, buying some equities will prove to be a wise decision in cushioning the effects of inflation; running through your mind is this- since companies cannot gainfully invest in projects which can yield good investment above production cost, they will also fall victim of inflation. The fact is that, corporations sells their produce at increasing prices, which brings to them high revenue, earnings and increasing stock prices.
Choose wisely by investing your savings on companies that can naturally alter their commodity and still retain loyal customers, companies that focus on consumer goods such as oil, grains, metals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages enjoys dynamic pricing power at this moment. Therefore, look out for corporations that focuses of low production and have high profit margins, such corporation will likely give you better dividends on your share, thereby giving you better return on your investments. Some investment platforms with great prospect that I can recommend are UACN, Oando, and Beta Glass plc. These stocks are doing fairly well despite the undulating condition in Nigerian stock market.

• Consider Real Estate Investment; another potent way to protect your savings from this bad guy (inflation) is by investing it on real estate, this can be very profitable if done rightly and for the right reasons. The secrets of real estate success is to have great eyes for hidden values in lands and houses, you need more than average patience to hold your investments for a couple of years, because time enables full maturity of properties which can later be sold to buyers at reasonable price. Don’t worry, I know you are concerned about how capital intensive it is to invest in real estate. The good news is that you can invest in this venture in Nigeria with as little as #400,000 which is currently an equivalent of one thousand five hundred dollar, you only need to look inwardly, there are numbers of shopping complex and plaza for sale all over urban areas. The developers only build and sell per unit shop to people at profitable prices, shops could be sold for as low as #800,000-1,000,000 per unit, and you can always partner with someone and secure one together with written agreement to shared profit in proportion to amount invested by each of the parties, you gain money when you lease it out. You can sell it off as soon as substantial amount of money is realised from rents and your investment return is already equal to principal.
Look around and put your ears on the ground, there are realtors (estate agents) in your vicinity, and vconnect is a great local search engine that can connect you with estate agents in Nigeria. Before you embark on this voyage, I often advise potential investors to arm themselves with prerequisite knowledge by reading books, attending seminars and workshop trainings on real estate. My favourite books by international and Nigerian authors are Guide authored by Spencer Strauss, and Investment Property Strategy by Samson Itoje.

• Invest in yourself; when you are faced with future investment uncertainty, the best tool at your disposal is yourself. It doesn’t matter how much you spend in adding values to yourself, no known strategy is more potent in fighting inflation than investing in you, and this empowers you to increase your future earning ability. The higher your academic qualification, the more indispensable you become to your employer and the higher your pay. As an entrepreneur; the more you invest in knowledge that is relevant to your business development, the better chances you have to weather the storm. Investment in oneself do not only shield one from inflation, it can guard you against economy recession as well.
Obviously, you are reading this write-up because you are a great thinker and you must have thought about something before landing on this page. So, what do you think about this article? I will gladly provide answers to your questions and I will be happy to read your comments and contributions.

Anyone into market research is in for a killing. But the initial stage is time consuming and resource sapping.

as a student in the UK I worked for a market reseaerch company. You'd be amazed how grocery stores likes tesco, asda, sainsburys (safeway) would do anything to be seen as offering the best product/item for your money and. Bestcustomer/shopping experience. . .talk about price/sercvice war.

I'm not sure if Nigeria is ripe for this but it is worth trying

Acidosis:
Do I still have to dabble into the numerous damnable prophetic and economic predictions for 2016? It has been said times without number that Nigerians must brace up to face economic and business hardships in 2016 (in the areas of job satisfaction, competitions, customer loyalty, business continuity, fuel scarcity/increased pump price, increase electricity charges, just to mention a few).

Amidst these challenges, some have realized the need to launch new businesses to meet up with the accompanying expenses in the coming year. On the other hand, some want to start a new business for the sake of flexibility, while some are just fed up with stiff competitions, copy-cats and the regulars.

All are potent reasons which can be tackled with the following less-competitive ideas in the coming year:

1. She-Taxi

Unlike countries like Egypt and India, a She-taxi service is practically strange in Nigeria. She Taxi is simply a fleet of taxicabs owned and operated by ladies ONLY, and for transporting women commuters EXCLUSIVELY.

You don't need to worry about profitability or patronage. It is common knowledge that majority of taxi commuters in a city like Lagos are WOMEN. Now imagine an offering without the fear of RAPE, KIDNAP or ASSAULT?

2. Watershop Vendor

Times are hard, not everyone can afford bottled water, majority of homes in the towns/cities do not have dispensers. With well branded jerrycans, you can deliver safe DRINKING water to families. I personally won't drink from the jerrycan the regular vendors sell with their rusty carts in Lagos, but I'll surely pay extra to get a well branded and sealed jerrycan of potable water from a well-dressed & certified vendor.

This idea is practically different from a pure water factory.

3. Restauranteering

I'm sure many have read and heard about APC agenda to feed school children. Now the question of whether the gesture would be extended to private school children is an issue many are yet to discuss.

I personally do not think all school children would be fed! Even if they try, it certainly won't be sustainable.

As a private investor or entrepreneur, take a bold step and approach PRIVATE school owners in a street or more streets populated with private schools. Make them realize you can provide daily meals to their pupils at affordable costs. This can be done termly or yearly.

You can ask for an interactive session in PTA meetings. Get your survey and ask what parents would like their kids to eat. I always 'pity' my neighbour as she's always trying to prepare either rice or indomie every morning before going to work just to see that her child does not beg friends in school for food. As little as N5,000-N10,000, I'm certain many parents would want to be relieved of the early morning stress.

On the one hand, this idea can relatively reduce stress and expenses parents undergo in the course of cooking, and on the other hand, put significant cash-flow on the table of an investor and of course the participating schools. It is a win-win approach for ALL.

NB: This is beyond a one-man business. No school will risk tarnishing its image because of food, so one has to be genuine, trustworthy, duly registered and established.

(Updated)
6 is a bit technical and only those with specialised interest can delve into it.

Basically, organisations and investors need to gather certain information before launching new products or service into a marketplace. These sets of information, otherwise called customer information comprising customer segmentation, purchasing power, income, age, sex, occupation and other demographic characteristics help shed some light as to whether a product or service will be duly received in Oshodi or Surulere.

As a market researcher, the objective is to provide your clients a snapshot view of a particular market, thereby reducing the risk of financial waste. It can also help them come up with an acceptable pricing, a firm business plan, overview of customers, among others.

Post-product launch, a market research company can also help organisations conduct customer satisfaction surveys. These days when organisations are willing to outsource anything and everything, a market research company will certainly thrive.

Traditionally, market researchers mostly use questionnaires. For those who can afford Big Data Analytics, it will definitely make the job easier.

These are basically the statutory roles of Marketers (its a shame we've reduced these lots to road side sellers and hawkers in Nigeria).

I have being thinking of this home cleaning for so long, while others hate Monday mornings I dread Saturday mornings and I know say we many. Was thinking of having a workforce of boys, girls and women who do the house cleaning for others like once or twice a week but the fear of staff stealing clients' personal effects is the beginning of wisdom.
