Both are important, but if i must choose one, i will give to books. But why do ask such question?

Motivational lectures/seminars seem to be the latest now. Anyone, especially "pastors" want to organise motivational lecture, which is a welcome development but some are taken advantage of it by making it a business. Dont you think it will be more prefarable to spend my money on motivational books and read at my own convenient time and place rather than spend it on a 2/3 hrs lecture?
