Welcome to 2016! New Year brings new dreams, new hopes, new visions, new passions and new opportunities to make new starts. New Year is the time to take stock of the past year, reflect on the mistakes made during the past year 2015 and try to rework on them and make right moves in 2016. Every one of you may have made some resolutions for the New Year 2016.

A resolution comprises of three things:

1. Naming what you are going to do or change
2. Deciding how to make this change, and
3. Developing a mental state of being determined to achieve this goal.

It is that time of the year people resolve to do or not do certain things in their lives. Most people take stock of their lives over the past year and resolve to make changes in the New Year, hence, New Year Resolutions. But how effective are these resolutions?

New Year's resolutions bring hope, but most don't ever see the light of day. Research has shown that you are most likely to fail. 92% of New Year’s resolution ideas are never implemented or acted upon. That same study found that only 8% of people actually achieve their resolutions. Perhaps that's because most set out to make unrealistic or unachievable changes.

Ten Steps to Make Your Resolutions Work
1. Make only one resolution - changing a lot of things at once is more difficult.
2. Think about your resolutions in advance, and spend some time to reflect on them.
3. Focus on new resolutions, don't re-visit past failures.
4. Focus on what you really want - don't just go with what's trendy.
5. Break your goal into manageable, concrete steps with specific deadlines.
6. Go public--tell your friends, family, and social networks about your goals, which will decrease your fear of failure and also garner support.
7. Create a checklist focusing on how much better your life will be once you've achieved your goals.
8. Treat yourself--whenever you make progress on the steps toward your goal, give yourself a small reward.
9. Monitor your resolution--charts, spreadsheets, journals, and other means of tracking your progress will keep it concrete.
10. Don't beat yourself up and quit if you sometimes revert to old habits--just treat it as a temporary setback.

Conclusion
Your resolutions can be anything. You don't have to fall into the fad of making some ridiculous promise you know you can't keep. Be realistic. Be honest. Evaluate your last year and decide on what needs to be different, and make a promise to yourself to try and change whatever it is that needs to be changed.
If you don't like how things are, change it! You have the ability to totally transform every area in your life - and it all begins with your very own power of choice. Write down your resolutions, follow them one at a time. It takes 21 days to form a new habit. Follow the formula for the next three weeks and review your progress then. The price of progress is the pain of change. There is no change without pain. Be willing to pay the price to achieve what change(s) you want for your life in 2016 and beyond. You have 365 days to make your change. Good luck!
