Uber Lagos has clocked over one billion trips
since its inception in Lagos, Nigeria. This was
tweeted on their twitter page on January 2nd,
2016. Whether you like it or not, Uber Lagos is growing and expanding every day. Uber has come to stay in Nigeria.

According to Uber Wikipedia’s page , “Uber
Technologies Inc. (stylized as U B E R) is an American international transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company develops, markets and operates the Uber mobile app, which allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request which is then routed to Uber drivers who use their own cars.

Uber was founded as “UberCab” by Travis
Kalanick and Garrett Camp in 2009 and the
app was released the following June.

Beginning in 2012, Uber expanded internationally. In 2014, it experimented with
carpooling features and made other updates.
Klout ranked the San Francisco-based
company as the 48th most powerful company
in America in 2014. By late-2015, Uber was
estimated to be worth $62.5B. As of May 28,
2015, the service was available in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide.”

In July 2014, Uber Lagos commenced its
operations in Lagos State, Nigeria. I am
writing this article with an entrepreneurial
mindset and I will be highlighting the reasons
why you should partner with Uber as a business person.

This is a summary of what you need to know
to partner with Uber Nigeria :

#1. Business Model and Payment Information

The business model depends highly on the
driver and their knowledge of Lagos in
general. Your possible earnings are dependent on this and your profits can be affected by the amount of inefficient travel between trips, air con usage, etc.

Uber collects the full fare on your behalf
directly from the client and deducts a service
fee of 20% on which the balance is paid into
your bank account.

All payments are made weekly into a Checking account and not Savings account, on a Tuesday which clears in your bank account either on Thursday or Friday.

#2. Setting up your Partner Account

You create your partner profile by visiting this link . After which you will then set up your bank details (current account only), upload vehicle documents and then set up drivers’ details for each driver in your account (if you are using your personal
car).

You can also drive your own car if you want to. Just add your name to the drivers’ list and add the necessary documents (a valid driver’s license and a Lagos State Drivers
Institute Card, LASDRI).

And if you do not have a driver, you can
request for one. Uber only accepts one
driver per account and all drivers must go
through a background check initiated by Uber.

#3. Accepted Uber Vehicle Standards

For a vehicle to be eligible for Uber Nigeria
(UberX & UberBlack), it must be a sedan (2009 and newer) with a mileage less than
100,000Km when placed on the system.

All vehicles must have seat belts for all the
passengers including the driver, a working
radio and air conditioner (electric windows
preferable) with a clean title (no salvage
vehicles)

This is a comprehensive list of vehicles accepted by Uber.

Other vehicle documents required by Uber Nigeria are:

Certificate of roadworthiness –obtained from the licensing department; Tint Permit (if vehicle is tinted); Certificate of Incorporation; Certificate of Ownership; and Vehicle License Number.

How to Become an Uber Driver in Lagos
