What's the possibility that it's 10 human beings (or at least some) named fish? I mean, there was nothing specifying that they were actual fish. Just throwing this in there for consideration.

I mean, by this consideration, it's possible that some could get out of the tank and still live if they are actually human beings. And if they are human beings, then of course, they can drown in water. The other one that died without drowning could have died of an unrelated cause. However, even if they are human, the riddle says some swam away, not got out of the tank. So by this reasoning all of them should still be in the tank.

Guy Fish don't drown, if dissolves oxygen is depleted in a water body, the fish simply needs to come to the surface of water to cat gasp for oxygen in d atmosphere for seconds and return to the water or do dat severally for survival.
Dissolved Oxygen are not cut off in any water body dey only get depleted or not saturated efficiently.

Note ; There is no fish, I repeat, no FIN-fish without gills, if it doesn't ve gills den it's not a fish.
