Hello Kalusam. I'd like to know if ugu has a lifetime.I had a beautiful experience with the broad leaf variety I planted in 2016. I got big pods too. I was shocked when it died. And the rains had not ceased. Does one replant each year? I've done that but I want to know if that is the way of ugu. Or I shouldn't have depended on rain alone? Thank you. |

lorhema: Ugu can last for more than a year if it is watered, however commercial production... It has a life cycle of 7-9months afterwhich the pods are harvested, then replanted! |

No, it is not necessary to stake ugu plant, staking mostly done for better farm management and it helps in differentiating stems so as not to cut the wrong one. for example, i had some ugu with pods and some without, but because they all weren't staked, it was difficult cutting only the ones without seeds, but there is not much difference, also staked ugu can easily be weeded, since you just have to watch out for the root. But most ugu farms like mine plant without stake because of the quantity, and the stress of staking a large farm, and cases where the stakes collapse due to heavy pods or weak sticks used for stake could damage the ugu plant. so, i advise your choice should be based on farm size hope this is helpful noblefrank31: 1 Like |

1kingwriter: I have actually not taken time to do the calculation at this level, but the earnings vary with season, i earn more during dry season because it is usually less available, while enjoy my dry season farming due to consistent water supply. |

1kingwriter:water leaf on which size of land? Please note a plot is not a standard land measure...an acre or a hectare is. 1 plot may be 200m² in some areas 666m² or even 1000m². So please clarify . also location and plant population determines revenue. However profit is dependent on revenue less investment. Please note this ! |
Re: Make 200,000 Naira Or More Monthly Growing Indigenous Vegetables this Dry Season by Kalusam(m): 8:53am On Nov 10, 2018 |
noblefrank31:Staking is necessary for proper management in intensive cultivation for leaf and only necessary for proper pod management. |

freshpzy1:Since cost changes with time and dependent on location, I may not be able to share such analysis on this platform lest someone see this four years later and use it for their own analysis. For accurate cost, inquire from vegetable farmers nearest to your farm they are in the best position to give you accurate details, any info I share here may only work on my farm or those around it! |

moshoodtex:Ugu is sold at Oyingbo market in large quantities. But please, always know where you plan to sell your produce even before you plant! Also, adding "very urgent" to a post won't necessarily elicit urgency in response from others on a public forum. Regards. |
