10 Very Interesting Facts About The Catholic Church You Probably Didn't Know! by mostHandsome01: 7:47am On Jan 17, 2016 |
Today is sunday and i taught of sharing some interesting things i found out about the catholic church 1. Vatican City has the highest crime rate in the world! With a population around 500 people and a little over one crime per day, the Vatican crime rate is above 100 percent, per capita. Although the fact is shocking it should be remembered that the Vatican is about one square mile in size, and has nearly 20 million visitors annually. Most of the crimes are pickpockets, purse snatching and other petty offenses done by outsiders. 2. The ONLY Christian church in existence for the first 1,000 years of Christian history was the Roman Catholic Church. All other Christian churches which exist today can trace their linage back to the Roman Catholic Church. Most non-Catholic churches which exist today are less than a century or two old by comparison. 3. The Catholic Church consists of more than just the Roman Catholic Church. There are 22 Eastern Rites that are in full communion with Rome and although they go by different names, they are every bit as much a part of the Catholic Church. 4. Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press, was Catholic and the first book ever printed was the Catholic Bible. 5. The Catholic Church is entirely responsible for the composition of the Bible, which books are included, as well as the breakup of the chapters and verses. Protestants have removed some books of the Bible because some of the verses were inconsistent with their theology. Martin Luther was a prime offender in this regard, removing Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. He also made an effort to remove James and Revelations, but this was rejected by his followers and those two books were kept. Catholics are often accused of "adding" the books, but despite this common belief, it is false. Older, pre-Protestant, Catholic translations of the Bible include them. 6. How many saints are recognized by the Catholic Church? There does not seem to be an official number, but it exceeds 10,000. Of course, any person who enters heaven is a saint, by definition, so it is certain the number of actual saints in existence is much greater than the number recognized by the Church. 7. Any Catholic may perform an emergency baptism, such as if a person is in grave danger of death. In such a case, the validity of the baptism only depends upon the wishes of the person being baptized, that they desire the baptism. There are specific guidelines for such practices that Catholics should follow. Anyone wishing to be prepared for such a case should refer to the catechism for a deeper understanding of this allowance. Generally, such practices ought to be left to trained clergy. 8. About 15 percent of all hospitals in the United States are Catholic hospitals. In some parts of the world, the Catholic Church provides the only healthcare, education and social services available to people. 9. The Catholic Church spends more money than Apple brings in. Expenditures by the Catholic Church, largely on charity, exceeded $170 billion in 2012, according to The Economist magazine. In that same year, Apple took in $157 billion in revenue. 10. The Pope is protected by the Swiss Papal Guard. Wearing uniforms designed by Michelangelo and commonly armed with halberds, they are capable of using heavier weapons if needed. Each member is Catholic, male, and Swiss, and must complete military training in Switzerland. They must demonstrate good conduct and be at least five-foot-eight in height. Those who are chosen are granted a private audience with the pope along with their families. In extreme circumstances, they are expected to guard the Holy Father with their lives. The Swiss Papal Guard is the oldest active military unit in continual existence since 1506. source:www.catholic.org/news/hf/faith/story.php?id=57689

mostHandsome01: This assertion is totally a LIE.The apostles raised a church in Jerusalem after the Pentecostal baptism of the Holy Ghost. Acts 5:11, 8:1.It was a Pentecostal church and by no means catholic. They weren't reciting the catechism there or praying hail mary or venerating and praying through dead saints. Paul in his missionary journeys established christian churches. Acts 14:23,Acts 15.36, 16:5. Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Collosians, Thessalonicans all included. They were not Catholic church. They were Pentecostal. The first 3 chapters of the book of revelation highlights Jesus Christ's commendation and rebuke of Churches. Rev. 2:1- end, 3:1- end. Those were not catholic churches. CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOULD STOP THIS AGED GENERATIONAL LIE. mostHandsome01: You folks keep presenting this matter in a manner that easily gives it out that the catholic church wrote the bible. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DID NOT WRITE THE BIBLE. The books of the bible from the old to the new Testament had already been written by prophets, apostles and devoted servants of God that had nothing to do with the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic church probably took these already written books which their doctrines contradict and tagged them in verses and, put them together and bound it. Yes God too has used the raging of the devil to accomplish His divine purposes. It didn't make the devil good. The devil raged to destroy Jesus to frustrate God's redemption plan for mankind. God allowed him. The devil by killing Jesus fully accomplished God's plan of salvation. So that the catholic church compiled a book they refuse to obey doesn't make them anything approved in God's sight. 1 Like |

I am a catholic but the bible churches of the Galatians, Ephesians, etc existed before the catholic church and common sense should tell us that not all those early christians migrated to rome. They were scattered all over the world and had just enough scriptures if not all (though not compiled) to keep them on track. Still learning. 2 Likes |

The catholics I've met in reality are educated, logical and are capable of holding a religious argument without even mentioning hell. No wonder they are the only church whose members actually make scientific discoveries. I respect them even if I don't share the beliefs. |

firstking01:purgatory is a place where those who have some sinful stains in their soul before they die. These people have received Christ in baptism but have some debt (sin) to pay for before they can enter heaven. You know very well that no sin will enter heaven so can you boldly say that people around you and you too can make heaven now? So if your answer is no then don't you think there is a place to purge ur sins away or a purifier? (Rev. 21:27). Hab. 1:13. Now since you have read now that all have sinned they read what Bible say about purgatory I Corinthians 3:11-15, Matthew 7:21-23, John 8:40, Galatians 5:19-21, Matthew 12:32 |

Speechless3: Yes dear one, those churches existed, founded mostly by Paul. They weren't separate churches; but branches of same church with headquarters in Jerusalem where Peter was (Gal.2:1 and Acts 15:2). On the matter of scriptures, think about it for a while, the scattered Christians couldn't have had "enough or all" scriptures, since paul's letters for example; were written to particular branches and kept with them-mostly in the hands of certain individuals. Finally, speaking things evolve, and so does administration, the administrative nature of the Catholic church has evolved over the years, but one thing is certain, the headquarters have always been where the Pope is. Today it is Rome. |

Speechless3:The churches in ephesus, antioch, etc were branches of the same catholic church which had its headquater in jerusalem at the time, many early xtians too the gospel to different places but it was still the same xtian church not a new denomination. peter later moved the headquater to rome and there it remained till his death. |
