The People’s Elephant had it rough with the men of the underworld who stole their valuables on their way to Kaduna for the Super Four on Monday afternoon

Enyimba’s preparation for the Super Four in Kaduna suffered severe hitches on Monday afternoon after players and officials of the club were robbed at gunpoint at Okene, Kogi State on their way to Kaduna.

The People’s Elephant were going to Kaduna from Otta where they have been having intensive pre-season training ahead of the NPFL and the Caf Champions League.

A top official of the club, Chukwudi Okanume told Goal that dare devil armed robbers waylaid their bus, and after shooting sporadically into the air, robbed the players and officials of personal electronics and money.

Okanume confirmed that no player was molested and that there was no injury but that the players were yet to recover from the shock of the armed attacks.

He said the team had to stop in Okene and that the players are being psyched up to rid the trauma of the attack off their minds so as to continue the journey.

“We were attacked around Okene by armed robbers who came with lots of guns. They were shooting into the air. The players lost all what they had on them including phones, money, laptops and other valuables,” Okanume told Goal.

“We have not sat down to take stock of what was stolen. Everything happened in broad daylight but there was nobody to help us.”

Enyimba are the defending champions of the league and this brings to two the cases of armed robbery attacks against football clubs after the celebrated case of former champions, Kano Pillars who were attacked on March 5, 2015 in Abuja on their way to honour a league match in Owerri against Heartland.

Pillars were not that lucky as five of their players suffered serious gunshot injuries after the attacks as the armed bandits made away with their valuables.
