It had been raining for seven days straight, in Ilueru village. Abike hated that she had to go out in the rain to look for food for her family. But, she doubted there would be any game for her to kill.

Ilueru was a border village in the kingdom of Ibiyowa. Even though, Ilueru literally means ‘the town of slaves’, the villagers were all freemen. But, they were all ridiculously poor. Even when the sky was clear, the villagers found it difficult to eat three square meals in a day. They were in the part of the kingdom were nothing grew. There were no antelopes to hunt, it was so bad that if a hunter found a bush rat in his trap, he would end up sacrificing it to the gods for thanksgiving.

Abike was eight when her father died of an unknown illness, leaving....

The whole village was in pandemonium. The rebels had attacked them. It was something they never thought would happen. The kingdom had been under constant attacks for the past three years, but the people of Ilueru never thought they would be attacked.
The rebels only attacked villages of merchants and wealthy people. The people of Ilueru never imagined that they would catch the eye of the rebels.

Women were screaming, children were crying, Huts were burning and the men being slain and there was no place to run.
Abike tried....

Sister, you have to leave me. Please leave me and save yourself” Anike pleaded.

“Just shut up and get on my back, I’m not going any where without you.” Abike answered.

Abike carried her sister on her back and ran blindly through the forest; her sister’s weight was pulling her down.

“We are going to make it.” Abike said breathlessly to her sister. But, there was no reply. “Anike” Abike called, but there was no reply...

THE MUTE SLAVE (4)

Abike and her sister who was still unconscious were dragged back to the village, where they joined other villagers that had been held captive by the rebels. The rebels had beaten Abike black and blue, her left eye was swollen shut. And they had made her carry her unconscious sister on her back, since she had refused to leave without her sister.

Back at the village, the rebels rounded up all the villagers and asked them to stand in a single file, they were all chained at the feet. Including Abike who still had to carry her unconscious sister.

The villagers were forced to

A new post is up on Aminatawa Stories, titled 'Gossip Queen'
Mojisola tapped her friend and told her to look at the woman who was exiting the salon.
"What is it this time?" Temilolu asked her friend. Mojisola was the Queen of gossip. Temi had almost turned back when she entered the salon and met her friend. Unfortunately, they had both come to make braids, so there was no way for her to escape early.
"Did you see the woman that just left?" Moji asked again.
"Yes, I did." Temi answered, as she winced in pain when her hairdresser pulled her hair. She wished Moji would just keep quiet; she didn't need her useless blather to add to her pain.
"That woman has been divorced, three times now. I don't know why some women find it difficult to stay in a man's house." Moji said with disgust, oblivious to the....

Sikira's husband has beaten her again. Today, he did it because she accidentally spilled the water on him. Yesterday, it had been because the food was late. Three days ago, he hit her because he was drunk.
He would come back home later with gifts, to beg for her forgiveness, and promise never to to hit her again. Of course, he would do it again, he was a chronic liar. He was...

Abike had shed the last of tears, she was now an orphaned mute slave in her in Kingdom. She sat on the floor, and watched as the rebel soldier who had been tasked with the duty of selling her to the palace, negotiated her price with a palace guard.
Her seller was disguised as a slave merchant. They finally....

Abike was led out out of the Queen's chambers by one of the maids and was taken to the slave's quarters were she would sleep with other slaves. Abike had to admit that the slaves hut was much larger and more comfortable than the little hut she shared with her family. But, that did not change anything. In Ilueru, she had been poor, but she had been a freeborn, and she had had her family.
"Slave, this is where you will sleep, make sure you are awake before dawn tomorrow and report to the queen's chambers." The maid said, and left.
Abike entered the large hut, there were many female slaves asleep on the bare floor, inside the hut. They were not...

“Your majesty, you sent for me. I hope all is well?” Olakunle asked, as he entered his sister’s hut.

“I think that child that His Majesty married is unto us.” Niniola said, without much ado.

Olakunle took his seat on a small stool in the room, although Niniola had not offered. He knew his older sister too well. In the forty years she had reigned as the mother of the kingdom, she had never been so insecure.

“What makes you say so?” he asked.

“Oyepeju bought a dumb slave, why would she buy a dumb slave if it is not spy on us?” Niniola could no longer contain herself, she stood and began pacing her hut.

“Calm down Your Majesty. Like you said, Oyepeju is a child; she has not experienced this kind of wealth before. So...

“Mother, you sent for me” Adeniyi said, as he entered his mother’s hut. But, he was greeted by silence. He came out of the Hut, and found a maid wandering.

“You! Where is Her Majesty?” he asked.

The maid quickly fell to her knees as soon as she saw The Prince. “She’s under the big tree.” She answered, with her head bowed.

“Why did you leave her chambers unlocked, what kind of maid are you? Where are the other maids?” He asked.

“They are with Her Majesty”

Adeniyi shook his head in annoyance, “I don’t know why Her Majesty surrounds herself with indolent maids.” He hissed, before he made his way towards the centre of his mother’s compound, where the big tree was.
