HEY HOUSE, AM TRYING TO GET ACCURATE DATA ON THE FUEL CONSUMPTION OF MOST CARS HOW MANY MILES /KM DO U LOG ON UR CAR ON A FULL TANK, B4 THE TANK GOES EMPTY OR RED? OR IF THAT WUD B TOO DIFFICULT, WHAT IS THE MPG OF UR CAR, 4 HIGHWAY N INTERCITY, PLS, I NEED ACTUAL, DATA, THANKS PRESENTLY ON A 2003 RAV 4, THE MANUAL SAYS 25 - 27 MPG INTERCITY, N 28 - 31MPG, HIGHWAY BUT DRIVING IN NAIJAS TRAFFIC I HV LOGGED LIKE 14MPG INTERCITY, N ABT 24MPG ON THE HIGHWAY, 2NDLY, ON THE INTERNET, MOST USERS ABROAD LOG LIKE 280 - 320 MILES ON A FULL TANK, WHILE I LOG BTW 170 N 230 MILES ON A FULL TANK, is it the low quality of petrol in naija/traffic/bad rds/oil  , my tank capacity is 56ltrs, so house post ur data, stating car make/yr/mpg/mpft =miles per full tank, , also specify ur cars tank capacity if ur car has a trip odometer, simply reset it after filling ur tank, n note the value when ur tank gets low, or copy ur present odometer reading n subtract from the final odometer reading when ur tank is empty thanks |

i do 200 miles and my fuel tank capacity is 70litres on my 1998 maxima v6. Guess not fuel efficient and i spend a whole lot of time in lagos traffic too. I use airconditioner all the time guess u will get better mileage without ac and if u don't slam the trottle too hard. If high quality fuel is used u will also get better mileage |

i get around 15 lts / 100 kms or around 6.5 kms for a lt but in lagos traffic i do around half of that 3.5 km for a lt ML 430 V8 fuel tank capacity - around 80 lts |

i do btw 180 - 220 mile to a full tank of 65 liters on a 1999 honda babyboy with 2.3 liter 4 cyl engine. this almost half the time with ac on. |

ok good guys, pls more responses. also i saw an advert by skoda octavia, claiming 4ltrs/100km!!!, i find that strectching the truth, i dont believe it, tis too good 2 be true yup i hv noticed that my mpft varies depending on where i buy petrol, this has helped e in shunning some petrol stations, since i log very low mpft, did 180mpft, ,that was too poor, so i hv blacklisted tht petrol station.i drive 85% of the time with ac, 2.0ltr vvti engine 4 cylndr |

1)The trash called petrol in naija is not good quality. octane value might not be upto 75 when you check it correctly. The petrol sold abroad is high octane. 2) Our fuel is leaded fuel so most of the exhaust pots are choked. 3) Engine management system of most cars in naija are not working fully because one sensor or the other is bad or one hose is not plugged or is clogged. 4) Wheels not alligned properly etc. I get about 260km/65l for a 2002 Honda accord AT (Euro/Uk model with 1.8l engine) for urban driving. I get almost 600km/65l for highway |

sultaan: Nothing wrong with the V6, the calculations tie in with Audi's figures. It's a common misconception, that a larger engine is thirstier, but wrong. It doesn't always work that way, there are quite a few points to consider. The 4,2L S8 engine I transplanted into my B5 A4 quattro, develops 340hp, against the original 2,6L V6's 150, and a hell of a lot more torque. So, 340hp in a lighter bodyshell, than the S8 it's usually fitted to, together with the larger spread of torque, makes for a more relaxed drive. So, sitting at 70mph with the 2,6L V6 motor will require a specific throttle opening. The same speed with the 4,2L V8 however will require less throttle opening, so of course, the engine is working less to achieve the same performance as the smaller V6. Also, consider the engine mnagement on both engines - the earlier 2,6L V6 12V employs a Hella system, with a single coil pack for all 6 cylinders. The 4,2L V8 32V on the other hand, is a much more sophisicated Bosch Motronic system, with the latest COP set-up (1 coil per cylinder). So, wasted spark principle. It also runs sequencial fuel injection, higher up the rev range, while the smaller V6 runs the same, but at lower rpm, before it switches to all injectors fired at the same time. So, less efficient. Lastly, the S8 4,2L V8 32V has variable length inlet manifold, using the longer path at low rpm, and switching over to the shorter tract at high rpm, so torque and power band are much wider. So Sultaan, there it is - there was nothing wrong with my V6, less mpg was due to the above mentioned factors. 1 Like |

Good topic!- I just filled my tank this morning- 21 litres was for 90miles (Camry- 98) - I have used same car on Highway- 198Miles swallowed 32 litres- Tank capacity 70litres, suffice it to say here that most of the experiences from posters are true especially with rgds to fuel quality- filling stations etc.- There are filling stations I buy fuel only when no other stations are selling. and I often buy fuel in the mornings.  - |

thinking of all this, is it possible for a petrol station (nnpc) to have better fuel than other stations? because i have noticed there is always a queue in nnpc filling station n sometimes a neigbors filling station will be empty, i will like to believe its not because of the 1 or 2 naira difference in pump price? |

people quueue up in nnpc station 4 2 reasons, 1. the quality is assured, nnpc station will most def not carry/sell bad fuel 2.price, some peeps r bothered by the 2 to 5 naira price diff, but me thinks the main reason is quality shaa, guys post more figures naah!! @siena, u gat any suggestions to make on improving a cars fuel handling capability, ie lowering the fuel consumption? 2. how often shud break pads n fuel filters .spark plugs/oil b changed? b changed |

If 3.7 liters = 1 gallon & 1.61km = 1 mile, that means my car did 22MPG in the highway and 16MPG in the city. Damn! this is so bad. Even SUV's do better milage than this. Thanks to Eko traffic. |

the 2006 honda accord tank is 17.1lts =approx 65ltrs converting ur km ur car is approx - 24mpg, thats fairly ok,,,,,though the manual says 29 to 34mpg on the highway, n 20 to 26mpg intercity. |
