Dear Members,

I was hoping I could get some answers/clarification regarding Bar Part 1 application and pursuing call to the Nigerian Bar. It's a little difficult finding answers online or through the NLS admission portal - no info. So, I'm relying on some insight here:

1. Background: I'm an Attorney in California (Juris Doctor). I don't have an LLB but I have an undergraduate degree (Bachelors - BA) and graduate degree (Masters- MBA) both in Business. My law school transcript has courses such as Contracts, Evidence, Tort, Constitutional Law, Property Law (not sure if this counts as "Land Law" ), Criminal Law, Equity & Trust and Business Associations (not sure if this counts as "Commercial Law" ).

2. I obtained my Juris Doctorate on a part-time basis. Again, it was not an LLB degree which requires full-time enrollment.

Do you foresee any admission issues based on the info above?

3. I have a 10 year old who will be coming with me. Are there primary schools around Bwari campus? Obviously, I will seek living accommodation off-campus.

4. Does Nigeria recognize dual citizenship (Nigeria and US)? I'm seeing conflicting info online. I was born in Nigeria, my parents are Nigerians. I've been in the US since 1995 & I'm a US citizen. I have an expired Nigerian passport (expired in 1998) which I have to renew before coming to NLS.

5. Is call to the Nigerian Bar reserved only for Nigerian citizens?

6. Is Bar 1 a 3-month program (June through Sept.) or a 6-month program? How long is Bar 2?

7. Does application for Bar 1 typically open in April or May?

8. How is the job market for a newly admitted Barrister, like me, in Nigeria considering my background (as described in question 1 above)??

Thanks so much for any feedback.

God bless.
