Please can someone here help me out? I drive a Honda CRV 2003 and I never had a problem until recently when it refused 2 start. My mechanic said I should change the plugs which I did but after a few days it re-occurred which he now told me that i should service the injector which i did but to no avail. So I finally decided to take it to another mechanic who said if the problem persists that it means my inner fuel pump (have no idea we had that) might be somewhat blocked that I need to fix it. The problem is i hardly have time and I don't want to leave my car there so I want to be sure if there is how the fuel pump when tested will pump fuel but the inner part is blocked? Also could this new mechanic be right? Don't wanna mess up my car. Please help a brother out here. tnx

Can you describe the difficulty in starting better? Does it crank? just silence or it makes a buzzing noise ?

It cranks well only that it doesn't start. Sometimes I have to press the gas before it's starts

It could be a whole lot ranging fron a weak fuel pump, bad refernce mark sensor, bad phase sensor etc. A proper diagnosis is needed. Which should be commenced by running a comprehensive scan, that would narrow it down to the problem there after a solution can be given. Am already frustrated as I have changed fuel pump, serviced nossle, changed plugs, serviced airflow, sensor, even changed flywheel, all to no avail, all these cost a hell of fortune, they just keep suggesting things, I don vex park d car. Pls any help cos am frustrated. Pks am in delta, any close help.

Does the CEL show? if not you cant scan anything. A similar problem was solved on my moms crv by changing the cold start switch. A scan cost 1k in lagos. Dont let any1 reap u off.

If you had your scanned by person A @ 1k does not mean you are gonna get it else where for same price

Even if there's no CEL, using fuel trims from livedata one can diagnose a lot. A problem in fuel delivery can be isolated by just fuel trims for example.


@OP Bad fuel can also cause difficult starts. The fuel will fail to atomise well especially in cold weather.

Yes irrespective of if d car is hot or cold plus I changed d cold start switch sometime last month. The problem just stopped 4 abt 4days then reoccurred. It has been like that since last month n it's annoying. Btw the CEL is showing sha. Should I go ahead with d scan?

My frnd drive d same car. I'm afraid it gave him issues too till he had 2 change d engine. Mayb u shld try d scan too 2 know d exact p with d car

Scanning is no big deal i bought my scanner for about 12k I dont even use my scanner now i have a paid software installed on my laptop bought the cable from aliexpress yolla thats what i use now for full comprehensive scan. Those technicians make it look like a big deal and reap you off. Il advise you do this.
1.Scan and post the codes here il inteprete for you.
2.Since you have changed the cold start switch before, do not change anything again until you have the scan result dont let dose illiterates loose your nuts unnecessarily.
3. Do u usually drive your car until your fuel tank is at reserve? If u do stop that it causes this type of problem. The octane rating of our fuel in Nigeria is Bad.
4. Its a minor problem trust me dont panic.

At cold start early in the morning my own car (nissan primera) will start normal. Afterwards, if I try to start it, it will be going off. I will have to pedal down the throttle a little for it to start. What could be the fault??

I'm thinking fuel delivery related: weak fuel pump, (if it uses a carburettor could be engine overheating and evaporating the fuel from the lines) . Other things like defective coolant temp sensor can also cause this.

Why not get a ELM scanner from Konga and use with your smartphone? Some even sell for N3500 or so. Most codes you are going to get will be generic anyway so if you're on a budget, this will help you.
