The catalyst must have been removed. It happened to my brothers Honda Pilot and he didn't know until I drove the car and noticed, I told him and he bought a new one 70k, now he enjoys the car. It must have been stolen before you bought the car.

I use that same car, 2001, but a v6. Personally I think your friend's car is still consuming a bit too much. I buy 4,000 fuel and drive mile 2 to lekki and back, 3 times, with AC.

One of the most basic things you need to do is make sure you change your spark plugs to a better grade and stop running your car fan direct

Removal of thermostat and running of fan direct is well enough for your car to drink fuel like fish .Don't waste money on catalyst as the fuel saving you will get is not as significant as overcooling your car engine as Kazeem as done to your car.

Na wa oo. I am afraid of that thermostat stuff since the day it made my car to overheat seriously... Everybody concluded on changing d gasket until angel Gabriel came down from heaven and told me never to change gasket but to remove the thermostat and since den there has not been any over heating issue or wat so ever.

Thermostats don't cause overheating, and its removal alone is enough to cause u negative fuel consumption. It is better u find out the reason ur car overheats while the thermostat is there, fix it and let ur fans be on factory specs, u are going to enjoy ur car that way and ur engine will last.
