A legal practitioner, Mr. Olalekan Adedeko, has accused officials of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for being responsible for his broken arms and legs after they allegedly pushed him down from a storey building.

According to Adedeko, men of the NSCDC injured him while trying to arrest him for not producing client he stood surety for at the office of the corps.

The lawyer was first taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, after which he was reportedly referred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.

He alleged that he broke his arms and legs during the incident, which occurred at Ortita Obele area of Akure, Ondo State at the weekend, New Telegraph reports.

Adedeko claimed that there was a dispute between his client, ODOPOS Property Ownership Scheme and one Mr. Ralph Alabi, over a contractual agreement which could not be met because of issues beyond his client’s control.

Adedeko said while it was true that his client defaulted in the payment of the contractual amount agreed, it was not one of the responsibilities of NSCDC to help recover debts or intervene in civil matters.

The legal practitioner added that last Tuesday some NSCDC officials came to the company’s premises and arrested him and other officials of the company. He said he was released six hours later while he went there the following day to secure the release of his client.

Reacting to the allegation, the state NSCDC Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Kayode Balogun, denied that men of the corps inflicted injuries on Adedeko.

Balogun said the lawyer got injured while trying to escape from the law enforcement agents who wanted to arrest him.

I will return sanity to the armed forces when I become President.

Then there will be a voice for the voiceless.

Why would the NSCDC dabble into debt recovery? They must have a bloated opinion of themselves. I'm sure the injured lawyer knows what to do to seek redress & claim damages

Let's not say what we are not sure of. If you can avail your self of the NSCDC ACT, you will be more enlightened on their responsibilities.
A case between an ordinary citizens or non/learned citizens with law enforcement agents is always different from that of Barrister and law enforcement agents or agencies. If he was so sure it's not one of their responsibilities why didn't he tell them when he went to bail his client?

Why would he bail somebody he can't produce when needed.?

If it actually happened the way it was described I'm sure he won't just be looking for cheap publicity with the situation because he knows what to do as a lawyer. By now they'd have gotten a summon from a competent court.

No law enforcement agency dares a lawyer or law firm without being sure of their case because at the end of the day, they'll loose money.
