Acute chest syndrome (ACS) is a living related
complication of sickle cell diseases that can lower
the levels of oxygen in the blood and can be life-
threatening.
SYMPTOMS OF ACUTE CHEST SYNDROME:
• Wheezing or Coughing
• Rapid or laboured breathing
• Fever of 101.3F degrees (38.5 degree
centigrade) or above
• Acute Chest pain.
CAUSES OF ACUTE CHEST SYNDROME:
• INFECTIONs : infections from viruses or small
atypical organisms (Chlamydia and Mycoplasma)
is the most common cause of the oxygen
deprivation that leads to acute chest syndrome.
• BLOCKAGE OF BLOOD VESSELS: blockages in
the blood vessels that cut off oxygen in the
