NEW CARS

Advantages
1.Greater choices
When buying a new car you have a lot of freedom to choose between various colours, interior choices, technological equipment, etc. You can get equipment replaced, upholstery switched, audio systems upgraded and virtually anything you please. In fact, you can request a special order with specifications that precisely meet your demands. This freedom is unavailable with used cars.

2.Low maintenance costs
A new car rarely ever needs maintenance for the first several thousand miles, except for the routine oil changes and tune-ups. You don’t experience problems that are too frequent with used cars, such as flat tyres, dead batteries and worn out exhaust systems.

3.Warranty and Car Deals
All new cars come with manufacturer’s warranty that typically lasts about three years. Many dealerships in Nigeria offer up to 3 years warranty. This means you won’t be spending anything for all these years on the issues arising in your car; they will be fixed by the dealer for free.

4.Up to date
With technology advancing so fast, every new model brings with it something extraordinary and advanced. Buying a new car will mean you have access to the most recent technology gadgets with up to date features.

Disadvantages
1.Expensive
New cars are expensive and aren’t affordable for many. You can get your desired vehicle for much lesser amount if you buy a used car. There are also several kinds of fees and taxes involved with new vehicles.

2.Depreciation
Depreciation is a headache with a new car because the moment you drive it out of the showroom, the car begins to lose its value.

USED CARS

Advantages
1.Price
It is mostly the cost factor that drives people to go for used cars, because they are much less expensive. You can get a well-maintained used car for lesser price and save yourself wads of money.

2.Better reliability
In many cases, old cars turn out to be more reliable than newer ones because they have been widely tested and you have ample information of these models on the internet. On the contrary, buying the latest car is a bit risky, as it is still in its testing phase and it takes time for problems to show up. We hear news every other day about manufacturers recalling millions of cars to fix issues. GM and Volkswagen are the latest examples.

3.Depreciation
Used cars are not affected as much by depreciation as are new ones; in fact they hardly lose value if you maintain them nicely. On the other hand, new cars depreciate very quickly and some cars lose up to 40 percent of their value in the first year alone. As long as you treat the car well, depreciation won’t be your headache.

Disadvantages
1.Safety
Older cars don’t have the latest safety features. It’s highly unlikely you find curtain airbags, electronic stability controls, child-seat restrains, etc on older vehicles, which means your safety is compromised. However, latest used cars come with all the standard safety features, but that come with a price.

2.Maintenance
Used cars can have several issues which show up from time to time, often without warning. You have to be ready at all times for heavy maintenance costs.

Hope this text would have helped you in making up your mind to whether buy a new or used car?
