Why NLC/TUC Should Tread With Caution About NERC New Tariff by favouryemmy: 3:29pm On Feb 05, 2016
It is no longer news that the access charge introduced into power charges has been jettisoned. This is One of the best news I have heard about our development this year because, if it continued that way, then the power companies will continue to short change Nigerians. The implications are that whether or not they supply you power, you will still have to pay some thing to them every month for services not rendered. And that means we may never be having uninterrupted power supply any time soon because several of them will relax knowing that free cash is coming their way.
However, the second part to this is that the tariff has been increased by about 45%. This is the bone of contention. probably they should have increased it by say 20% or so, so that the negative effects will be cushioned on the masses.
The NLC/TUC has decided to fight this tariff hike because, according to them, due process was not followed. In as much as they have decided to fight this out, returning to status quo is a greater evil. Even if they NERC decides to reduce the tariff, NLC/TUC should also insist that the access charge should NEVER be restored, never! This will make the power companies to work harder. And if properly done we should soon be saying welcome to uninterrupted power supply in Nigeria in the nearest future.

God bless Nigeria!
