This myth is related to the length of a woman’s cycle and when she
ovulates during that cycle. Many women with short cycles of 24 days
or less will always ovulate during or just after a period. Whereas
women with much longer cycles are less likely to ovulate during their
period.
But the problem is that women, at various times, have irregular
cycles.


So, for instance, if you have sex during your period thinking it is safe,
you might be having a short cycle and will ovulate early. This, in
combination with the fact that sperm can live for 5 days inside the
vagina , makes it a risky thing to do.
The bottom line is that women can get pregnant while on their period,
so having period sex is not a method of practising safe sex.
