Looks
The Chevrolet Spark has been around since 1998, and a tip of the hat to Chevrolet for keeping it consistent; consistently unappealing that is. Currently in its third generation, the Spark flaunts ginormous headlights, an oversized grille, undersized wheels, and styling cues that would be fitting for an MPV. The unattractive designs are carried to the rear end as well, which houses bulbous tail lights and a rear spoiler that borders three sides of the rear windscreen.

Feels

Inside, Chevrolet has tried experimenting a little, and the results are pleasing. To break the monotony of black plastic along the dashboard and door panels, the Spark adopts a two tone colour scheme that does its part to add a little pizzazz to an otherwise dull interior. Additionally, with the speed-o-metre attached to the steering wheel and illuminated rings around the A/C and radio rotary dials, the Spark stands out in comparison to its competitors.

Engineering

On the entertainment front, the base Spark is equipped with just 2 speakers and a roof mounted antenna. However, the LS packs in 4 speakers, a USB port, and a CD player with MP3 capability.

What’s on offer?

The mini hatchback packs in a 1.0 litre 4 cylinder engine that produces 68 horsepower and 93 Nm of torque. Although the 0 – 100 km/h time is irrelevant to a car like this, it’s 15.5 seconds, just in case you were wondering. What’s the benefit of this diminutive engine under the hood? Well, you’d be saving a whole lot at the pumps, that’s for sure!

Summing it…

At the end of the day, the 2015 Chevrolet Spark is a comically designed plastic container; pretty much like almost all of its competitors. So what I don’t seem to understand is, why it’s significantly more expensive than the Hyundai i10?
