So yes, they all agree bowing to worship someone is Shirk while bowing to someone as a way of veneration is strongly impermissible

That post took so much space and it's hard to read so I'll clear some parts of it soon

I read the post on the website, but I think I will like to read more about why some scholars say it's shirk. Islamqa says its a major sin.

I didn't see any of the scholars regard prostration as a way of veneration as Shirk tho. Not even one

Those that said its shirk based it on the verse I mentioned earlier in suratul jinn and fussilat...which is looking weak to me now, saying its shirk means we are accusing past prophets of falling into shirk which is impossible..

SMH.

So when someone bow to greet or for respect is now a worship? Where is the humbleness? Where is our cultural ethics?

Going to cultural ethics is too far as it isn't a yardstick for the religious practice. What I don't I don't understand as regards this issue is that, isn't our intention what God wants and not our posture? The intention for bowing or even prostrating to our elders is an act of respect and not intended to worship them.

I was shocked to hear an imam- back then when I was living in an Hausa community down here- said it is best to greet your father by handshaking him instead of bowing to him which is actually shirk, I be like what ? shocked shocked

You see the irony yourself bah?

Thank you my brother. People love it when one show humbleness not ego, Obama, Clinton showed a sign of respect and humbleness to the King of Saudi even though they are also leaders, you can see the smile in the king's face.

I don't believe in all our cultural practices but I believe in the ethics and moral in our culture, I wonder when bowing to an elder mean someone is worshipping him/her? My Dad doesn't need us to bow to him he didn't teach us to bow to him but I still bow to him because he's my father and he deserve the respect.
