I just read about the black stone which was venerated at the Kaaba in pre-Islamic pagan times. According to Islamic tradition, it was set intact into the Kaaba's wall by the Islamic prophet Muhammad in the year 605 A.D., five years before his first revelation .

Pilgrims who go for hajj jostle for a chance to kiss the Black Stone; if they are unable to kiss the stone, they can point towards the stone on each circuit with their right hand.


the stone fell from the sky and is basically a meteorite right? why so much importance on this item in Islam?

The islamic religion adopted a lot of pagan traditions which predated islam in mecca. Truth be told, islam itself is based on a pagan religion which was modified and repackaged by mohammed by adopting some biblical stories to gain credibility and claiming the biblical prophets and islamic prophets. Mohammed actually tried to pass off his god as the God of the bible but any discerning person will easily see through this fraud.

The black stone is just a meteorite the pagans worshipped because they thought it was from God since it fell from the shy. This practise was adopted by islam along with other pagan practises of circling the pgan kabbah seven times when they do their pilgrimage.
