Sorry, yes 46 is wrong.
From what I understand, the smallest pyramid requires 10 balls, the next should be 19 balls, 31,46,........and so on.
It's not possible to make a bigger pyramid using all the balls from two smaller pyramids.

Nice analysis. But you are still wrong. Notice the pattern with which the balls are placed, STRATUM by STRATUM

Notice in the given example. 10 + 10 balls i.e 1+3+6 and 1+3+6 gave 20 balls i.e 1+3+6+10. Your job is to deduce an (algorithm) that can generate a pyramid using two unequal pyramids. cheesy

The answer is 725 balls, 120 balls from the smaller pyramid and 605 balls from the bigger pyramid.

Waiting for my prize, lol.

haha. Your answer too far. Ha! Wetin! Explain your steps sha
Re: Best Brain Teaser by sparklebaby: 10:51pm On Feb 19, 2016
For the steps, well well well, I just did it some how sha.

The number of balls needed for the smallest pyramid is 10, 20 for the next size, 35, 56, 84, 120,165, 220,.......... 605, 725....... and so on, using these 4+6+10+15+21+28........

120 and 605 are the only (maybe the first set of) numbers that will add up to another number in the sequence.
What's your answer? Am still waiting for my prize.

There are 2 answers. 14 and 30. But based on the question 30 is more correct.:p

Okay. Although I don't understand.
Re: Best Brain Teaser by sparklebaby: 11:07pm On Feb 19, 2016
Hope you know you can't have a pyramid with 30 balls or even 14balls
Re: Best Brain Teaser by sparklebaby: 11:08pm On Feb 19, 2016
In short, your answer is wrong. LOL

No na. Those ones na typographical error.
See. You look for the difference between two small pyramids such that the difference itself can form a pyramid.
So our options are 1,3,6,10,... I.e
1,3,6,10,15,21,28,36,45,55. You see! 55-45=10. Gbam! So add 1;3;6 down to 55. That gives you 220. Lol.

You are still wrong. My answer 725 is correct. Just settle down and think about it, if 220 is the answer then what number was used for the small pyramid and what was used for the bigger one.
Re: Best Brain Teaser by sparklebaby: 12:44am On Feb 20, 2016
A pyramid is made up of four triangular surface.

lol. So wat series did you add up to give 725
Re: Best Brain Teaser by sparklebaby: 12:56am On Feb 20, 2016
I added these; 4+6+10+15+21+28+36+45+55+66+78+91+105+120 when you add all these you have 725.

My bad, made wrong calculation.
The answer 680 then, 120 balls for small pyramid and 560 for the bigger one.

You still haven't answered my question. 'if 220 is the answer then what number was used for the small pyramid and what was used for the bigger one?'
