The different phases of job interview in which telephone interview is one is now widely used by recruiters these days in selecting the right candidates for a job opening. Most people sometimes forget that first impression matters a lot when it comes to telephone interview, your voice and speech confidence you display during the interview might be the only tools you need to be successful during the interview with the recruiter over the phone.

You should always expect any type of calls as far as you are job hunting and always be polite when answering calls. When you receive an interview call, you should be able to sell your skills, experience and your strength in a convincing manner to the interviewer.


Things you can do to have a successful Phone interview

1- Have a control over your Environment

It is important you be in a conducive place free of noise and distractions. Give your full attention to your interviewer and whenever possible, make sure your phone reception is not shaky, some employers might give you the opportunity to choose a date and time convenient for you, if that arises, make the best choice for yourself.

2- Adequate Preparation

You should have studied everything about the company using their website and also familiarize yourself with the job description prior to the day of the interview. Having such information, will give you more confidence in responding to questions asked by the interviewer, also be prepared to give more detailed explanation on your resume, but do not spend much time on it.

3-Voice training and a relaxed composure

Prior to your interview date, learn your grammar, and tense agreement well as most telephone interview are conducted in English language. Avoid the use of ambiguous word and be clear in your speech. Relax and be calm while speaking to avoid stuttering, also smile while answering your calls, since people can hear you smile , you could also do some practice with your friend to access your level of preparedness before the D-day.

4- Prepare your questions

Most interviewers always gives the opportunity to be asked any question after the interview. Do not use this opportunity to ask for benefits, salary, start dates or what the company will do for you if employed, asking this questions will give the impression that you are more interested in the salary and benefits than the job. You could rather use this opportunity to show your enthusiasm and zeal if given the opportunity to work.

5- Send a Thank you message

Show an act of gratitude by sending a thank you message. This goes a long way to show that you appreciate the time spent with you. a short email of thanks will be perfect.
