As I woke up this morning and saw a notification on my phone. I checked only to be greeted with debit alert from First bank that looks like this ...."Your account 30XXXXXX33 has been debited with N100 by MONTHLY FEE....."... I decided to ask them on their twitter handle what that fee is for and when it started. I was immediately replied that it is a new introduction with another 5% VAT effective from February 2016 on all savings accounts. Now, my questions are * why did they carryout such action on people's hard earned money without duely notifying them about it * Is this an order from Central bank and is it obtainable in other banks?  * Is Savings account not meant to attract interest other than tax and unnecessary charges? * If I decide to save N1200 with the bank and at the end of the year my acc statement reads N0.00, how does this encourages saving * How does this encourages Cashless policy since people are robbed of their money while it is in the bank? * Isn't N100 per month not too much? *What is now the difference between Savings and current accounts? . same here...was surpised by the new charges.. i know some ignoramus will say its just 100... but 100 naira from over1million accounts is huge profit for the bank....imagine making over 1.2billion in a year from our accounts is a form of scam |

I got the alert around 2am when I was online, I immediately sent them mail, waiting to hear from them before I copy CBN, if it an order from CBN, before I will take the next action. This na stealing from who no get to enrich their pocket Imagine deduct 100naira from all customers, chai...first bank don hammer! |

Codedzng: maintenance fee i know is for current account and not for savings account. they deducted close to N1000 from me. Very soon. i will close all my accounts and start keeping my money at home. |

They waited till weekend before committing this crime. Last month ended on a week they and they decided to steal from us on Saturday when banks are closed, the deducted about 400 from my account, sms charge vat, monthly fee e.t.c. |

I don abandon my First bank AC tey tey. Because of this deductions. I was getting different deduction alerts on my account for different useless reasons. Sometimes no reason at all. So I jejely went to the bank and withdrew my money and transferred them to my zenith account. You better do the same before them shop your money finish |

Nnaabros: My dear is almost all the banks that are into this broad day robbery it looks like first bank and gtbank are taking leads on this robbery. Skye bank deducts N65 at any withdrawal from another bank ATM whether first withdrawal in a month or last withdrawal. Stanbic charges N50 stamp duty on savings account even on self account transfer. First bank does monthly fee and maintenance fee, i really wonder what those fees mean; hmm that one tie real wrapper. Gtbank fraudulently reduces their rate to dollar and after customers have used it, they would leave their customer's account with a negative balance thereby claiming system glitches. When Arm robbers rob banks, we all shout arrest them, kill them on nairaland; now that banks who are suppose to protect our money are robbing us, i wonder what we should shout and who will shout for us. 6 Likes 1 Share |
