The CLA’s hatchback sibling, the GLA250, receives as standard Mercedes-Benz’s newest infotainment system with a seven-inch display and a proper media interface, as well as keyless ignition, dual-zone climate control, and an adjustment for the driver’s seat cushion length. The rest of the GLA’s changes are even more minor, with multi-colored ambient lighting now part of the Interior package as well as being a standalone option; grey leather replacing the two-tone beige-and-black color scheme; a new dark-trim Night package like the CLA’s; a 180-degree view for the backup camera; and a new Kryptonite Green paint color that replaces last year’s Universe Blue.

Not exactly earth-shattering stuff, but meaningful improvements nonetheless; unfortunately, we won’t know how much the updated CLA and GLA cost until closer to their on-sale dates, but we do know that the twins’ more-powerful siblings, the CLA45 and GLA45 AMG models, are slated for a power bump for the same model year. There are no such updates in store for the 208-hp CLA or GLA.

Mercedes has introduced a new dark-trim “Night package,” new contrast-stitching options for the base black or grey MB Tex psued0-leather upholstery, as well as a “welcome light show” programmed into the optional ambient lighting kit. Buyers can now opt for adaptive dampers, an enhancement that may mellow the CLA’s firm ride. As for the Edition: Orange CLA, just 750 will be made, based on the CLA250 and all-wheel-drive CLA250 4MATIC models.‎

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is an attention grabber, especially with the doors up.‎ It represents the zenith of desirability for vehicles that wear the three-point star. With blistering performance, an ultra-luxurious interior, neo-classical styling and gull-wing doors that elevate the coupe to near art, the SLS is a true indulgence for the driving elite.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG coupe drew more attention than just about anything I’ve ever driven. Credit the doors, really -- even if folks were unfamiliar with the car’s $200,000-plus price tag or its sub-four-second to 60-mph performance, two gull-wing doors in the up position yielded camera clicks, stares, catcalls and thumbs-up from nearly everyone past whom we rolled. So the SLS is a supreme attention-getter; that might be enough for some buyers. The car certainly sounds the part: AMG’s hand-built V8 is a monster with instant power and an overrun that would sound familiar to any Le Mans enthusias

This is one of the more switch-sensitive cars I think I have driven. By that I mean in comfort mode -- with its transmission and suspension settings -- the car is a boulevard cruiser. Switch to manual (transmission) and sport-plus suspension and whoa, it suddenly transforms into a mean, nasty terrorizer. And I mean that last as a compliment. The car is a rocket again so long as you have the right buttons pressed and switches switched to their proper position. The big V8 sounds great (and at all speeds, including idle) like a Cup car.
