This profiles one of the great Universities in Nigeria
that has a long record of academic excellence in the
country. Ahmadu Bello University belongs to the First
generation Universities in Nigeria, it was officially
launched on October 4th 1962 in a colourful ceremony
presided over by it’s first Chancellor, Sir Ahmadu
Bello. Today, Ahmadu Bello University has turned out to be
the largest university in Nigeria, sub-saharan Africa
and second largest to Al-Azhar University in Africa
covering a land area of about 7,000 hectares. The
University embraces 12 Faculties, a Postgraduate
school, 94 Departments, 6 Institutes, 6 Specialized centres, a Division of 4 Agricultural colleges (DAC), a
School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS), a
Demonstration Secondary School (DSS), and a Primary
School. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has produced over
800,000 graduates in the last 50years (1962 – 2012).

Quota and catchment things. They should have competed to be admitted in schools outside their region. Thank God I could not have imagined passing through same uni as Lamode. He is not qualified in character even if he did in learning .

No Southern name? It is understandable. The first generation of educated Northerners attended this school and since they have ruled for the most part of our chequered national history, this is not surprising and in my opinion, does not connote academic excellence.
