Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo is in big trouble over his purchasing of N5.3bn (£11.8m) 3-bedroom apartment in Manhattan, downtown New York.

According to reports emerging on Tuesday, Ronaldo could face N3.5bn (£7.8m) court battle after being accused of ‘slander and false statements’ by a real estate firm which claimed the Portuguese football star bought the apartment in one of United State Of America’s Republican Party Presidential aspirant, Donald Trump’s Trump Tower.

British tabloids, The Sun and Daily Mail report that Proto Enterprises, owned by renowned property tycoon, Alessandro Proto, claims to have sold to Cristiano Ronaldo the luxurious property, a penthouse at the top of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York in 2015.


Ronaldo vigorously denied the claim and other suggestions of buying a favela in Brazil to give back to residents and a Monaco hotel, as well as a role in a Martin Scorsese film – last week, with his representative saying:

The name and the image of Cristiano have been used now for quite some time by a company whose presentation of false information has made them subject to a court case in the Italian justice system.

But Proto hit back in a stinging statement released on Sunday night revealing that:

The apartment bought by Ronaldo had been donated to his Moroccan friend, Badr Hari
The company’s statement read in part:

The complaint for slander and false information against Ronaldo was made. We have claimed damages for 10 million euros.
After having registered the true beneficiary [of] the apartment in the United States, we had to declare to the authority that the apartment bought by Ronaldo had been donated to his Moroccan friend, Badr Hari.
Maybe that’s what bothers the player who never before had said anything about this purchase. Now we are waiting for him [to respond].

Sorry if the secret of Ronaldo became public, but US laws are very strict and we have only done our job. The complaint against Ronaldo, for his words against our society, has already been made and presented.
Proto, who is a business partner of Republican presidential hopeful, Donald Trump, said in the statement bearing his signature that the decision to sue Ronaldo was to protect the firm’s name just as Ronaldo wants to protect his privacy.
The loft in question was built in 1983 and its interiors have been created by world-renowned designer Juan Pablo Molyneux and features stunning views of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and Freedom Tower

Daily Mail UK, which spoke with Proto Enterprises reports that the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom apartment is ‘regarded as one of Manhattan’s most prestigious and secure’ places to live.

It boasts spectacular panoramic views of Central Park to the north, sweeping west to the Hudson River, and then south with breathtaking views of Manhattan’s most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and Freedom Tower.
