I would replace Omeruo with Awaziem. And Agbo for Agu. The rest is fine IMO.

Modified
I don't think Muazam deserves a debut yet.

ROAD TO RUSSIA: 10 Super Eagles Players Who Should Feature Vs Algeria

Ahead of the Super Eagles’ African qualifying Group B FIFA 2018 World Cup clash against Algeria, Completesportsnigeria.com’s JAMES AGBEREBI lists 10 players who should be considered for starting places against the North Africans as the Nigeria squad take shape for the World Cup…

HENRY ONYEKURU (Anderlecht)
Henry Onyekuru’s first invitation to the Super Eagles was in the 2-0 defeat to Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a Group E 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo in June.

But he did not feature as he was an unused substitute in the game.

He was however placed on the Eagles’ standby list in the double-header against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Despite not being invited for the last qualifer against Chipolopolo of Zambia, Onyekuru has not allowed it to affect his club performance for Anderlecht.

Since joining the Belgian champions on loan from Everton, Onyekuru has scored six goals in 10 league games so far.

The game against Algeria would be the perfect official debut for Onyekuru to show what he can do in fornt of goal for the Eagles.

JOHN OGU (Hapoel Beer-Sheva, Israel)
The Hapoel Beer-Sheva midfielder is yet to feature for the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers despite being invited several times.

Ogu was in the squad for the games against Cameroon in both legs and against Zambia but did not see a single minute of action.

He remains a regular for Hapoel Beer-Sheva where he has scored one goal after six league games.

His last game for Hapoel was in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League home clash against FC FCSB which they lost 2-1 with him going off with a suspected knock.

With the World Cup ticket already secured, Ogu now has the opportunity to give the Eagles coaching crew something to think about in the midfield.

OLANREWAJU KAYODE (Girona, Spain)
After making his debut in the 2-0 defeat to South Africa in June, Olanrewaju Kayode has not been considered for invitation.

Kayode showed glimpses of what he can do when he was brought on in the game against South Africa as his speed and constant harrassment of the South African defence was evident.

It would not be out of place if he is given the chance to face Algeria as he could be a revelation for the team.

And since joining newly promoted Girona in the Spanish LaLiga on loan from Manchester City, Kayode is yet to miss a game.

He has played all Girona’s eight league games so far but has not scored his first goal for the club.

super-eagles-completesportsnigeria.com
Super Eagles Training in Uyo.

ANTHONY NWAKAEME (Hapoel Beer-Sheva)
Anthony Nwakaeme’s brilliant peformances in front of goal for Hapoel Beer-Sheva finally earned him an invitation to the Super Eagles.

Nwakaeme was among the 23 players invited by Gernot Rohr for the qualifiers against Cameroon in Uyo and Yaounde. He was also invited for the game against Zambia.

Unfortunately, Nwakaeme did not get the chance to play as he was an unused substitute in the games.

Making his debut against Algeria should be a near certainty as he can provide something different in the Eagles attack which has Odion Ighalo as the only out and out striker.

OLA AINA (Hapoel Beer-Sheva)
The former England junior international made his debut for Nigeria in the 1-0 win against Zambia in Uyo.

Giving a rookie his debut in such a crucial game would have stunned a lot of people but Ola Aina impressed with the little time he spent on the pitch.

A versatile defender who can play in either full-back positions, Aina will be provide good back-up especially in the right-back spot.

Against Zambia, Aina showed that he is not just all about defending as he raced forward and laid a good cutback cross which Victor Moses failed to finish off.

And the game against Algeria would be a good testing ground to really evaluate him.

MIKEL AGU (Bursaspor, Turkey)
Mikel Agu has come under serious criticism for his displays when called upon in the Super Eagles qualifiers.

Aside from the 4-0 win against Cameroon where he was not really examined properly, his performances in the games against Cameroon in Yaounde and Zambia in Uyo have not been encouraging.

But it could be argued that the nature of the games in Yaounde and Uyo ( versus Zambia) overwhelmed him hence is poor performances.

And the fact that he always get the nod whenever there is a substitution to be made in the Eagles’ midfield is an indication that the coaching crew have confidence in his ability.

Playing without any pressure, Agu should be given the chance to prove his doubters wrong one last time.

It would be surprising to note that Agu, playing for Bursaspor, made the Turkish Super League Team of the Week for last weekend, getting the highest rating of 9.3.

DELE AJIBOYE (Plateau United)
Another individual who deserves a look in for a place in the team against Algeria is Dele Ajiboye.
It is surprising that Ajiboye is just now being considered for Eagles invitation after emerging in the scene in 2007 with the Golden Eaglets.
Ajiboye was in the home-based Eagles squad that featured at this year’s West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations in Ghana, keepeing in one of the group games.
Also he helped Plateau United emerge champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League for the first time in their history. Luckily for him, he was invited for the games against Cameroon and Zambia as one of the reserve goakeepers.
It would not be a bad idea if Ajiboye is thrust into goal against Algeria or even come in as a second half substitute to show the stuff he is made of.

IBRAHIM ALHASSAN
The former Akwa United forward now plies his trade with Austrain top side Austria Wien. Before signing for Austria Wien, Alhassan was invited for the Eagles’ friendlies against Corsica and Togo where he did well.
He was in the home-based team that qualified for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) holding in Morocco.Alhassan proved that he can be lethal in front of goal as he scored 12 goals for Akwa before joining Austria Wien.
And since joining Austria Wien, Alhassan has made four appearances, scoring one goal so far.
The lanky forward should be considered for a callup as he has shown in the past that he has a lot to contribute to the team.

KENNETH OMERUO (Kasimpasa, Turkey)
Since his last appearance in the 3-1 win against Algeria in Uyo, Kenneth Omeruo has not featured for the Super Eagles again in any competitive game.

Omeruo was invited for the game against Bafana Bafana of South Africa but did not play in the game.

Despite not being invited for subsequent national team games, Omeruo has been regular for his Turkish club Kasimpasa, appearing in five of their nine league games this season.

The Algeria match is the perfect opportunity to give the centre-back another opportunity.

Kenneth Omeruo in action for Super eagles

OGHENEKARO ETEBO (Feirense, Portugal)
Oghenekaro Etebo’s last appearances for the Super Eagles were in the 2-0 defeat to South Africa in the 2019 AFCON qualifier and against Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the 1-1 draw in Yaounde in a Russia 2018 qualifier.

At Feirense, Etebo is yet to miss any of Portuguese top flight game as he has appeared in all the club’s nine this season, scoring three goals.

Ok, I seem your responses to other forumites. I don't really believe most of these papers cos they merely speculate false news. That's why Naija players are the most actively transferred players on NAIJA controlled newspapers and internet. E.g. Etebo and Azuibike to Monaco, Moses Simon to West Brom. Also they come up with SE camp distorting news. Thats how I read somewhere that Rohr was set to dismiss Mikel as his captain. Smh. Just don't believer all u read

Seriously.. That's why I need to ask for the source.. And when I checked the source no credible name or no name was mentioned from NFF dept...

Whereas allnigeria.com mentioned Toyin ibitoye and NFF vice president... I posted the news up there...

No interference in his choice of players... We all watch the interview on channels saying enyeama is welcome but will need to sort out is club first then fight for his shirt shikkenah.

I beg our journalists and all analysts not to kill the present super eagles current drive and team spirit with unnecessary calls for players inclusion who may ruin our world cup dreams. Nigeria: NFF Washes Hands Off Debate On Enyeama's Planned Return to Eagles

By Gowon Akpodonor
As reactions continue to trail the decision by Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr to open the door for former skipper and first choice goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama to return to the fold, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) declared yesterday it was neither in support nor against the decision.

Enyeama left the national team in controversial circumstances in 2015 following a row with former Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh. Several attempts and appeals by some individuals were made for him to come back to the team but he refused. To some Nigerians, Rohr's decision to throw Eagles' door open to Enyeama could be counter productive, especially at Russia 2018 World Cup.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, NFF Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said the football house would not in any way interfere in Rohr's choice of players and goalkeepers for the national team.

"The NFF does not interfere in the choice of players or goalkeepers for the national teams," Sanusi said. "We gave Rohr the free hand to pick whoever he feels capable of playing in the Super Eagles. I won't say we are in support of his decision to bring back Enyeama neither will I say we are against it. Rohr's decision is final as far as such issue is concerned."

Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye said in a chat with The Guardian yesterday that Rohr was not planning to hand Enyeama an automatic entry into the World Cup-bound Super Eagles, but to give him chance to fight for it. "Rohr has not said the Enyeama is coming straight into the team, but he will have to prove himself whether or not he is still fit to earn a place in the goalkeeping area. To me, it is not a bad idea. But that is not to write off other goalkeepers in the team," Ibitoye said.

To some Nigerians, however, the Super Eagles currently need players who can be loyal to the coach and follow instructions, but not people with attitude problem.

Some have suggested that the technical crew should look into Enyeama's injury problem critically before opening the door for his return to the team since he had been out of action for over six months. For some others, Enyeama's return to the Super Eagles could spark a captainship row in the team, which could jeopardise Nigeria's chances of making appreciable impact at the World Cup.

[His Encounters With Nigeria And Other Interesting Facts About New Algeria Coach MadjerRabah Madjer

Following the appointment of the legendary Rabah Madjer as new coach of the Algerian national team, Completesportsnigeria.com’s JAMES AGBEREBI highlights SIX interesting facts about the 58-year-old, including encounters with Nigeria as both countries get set to meet in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier in November…

HE WAS A MEMBER OF ALGERIA TEAM THAT LOST TO NIGERIA IN 1980 AFCON FINAL

Rabah Madjer made his debut for Algeria in 1978 and went on to make his first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980 in Nigeria.

Algeria qualified from a group that had Ghana, Morocco and Guinea, beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the semi-final and qualified for their first ever final.

In the final, Madjer was brought on in the second half for Tedj Bensaoula but did little as Algeria were thrashed 3-0 by Nigeria.

HE WON THE 1987 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WITH FC PORTO
FC Porto qualified for the final of the UEFA Champions League (known then as European Champions Cup) for the first time in 1987 and met German giants Bayern Munich.
On parade for FC Porto was Madjer who scored a memorable back-heel goal in the 77th minute to make it 1-1 after Ludwig Kogl had given Bayern the lead on 25 minutes.
With 10 minutes left, Juary scored Porto’s second goal which secured their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

HE WAS VOTED AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR IN 1987

Following his contribution to Porto winning the 1987 UEFA Champions League, Madjer was named 1987 African Footballer of the Year.
Madjer finished ahead of Cote d’Ivoire’s Youssouf Fofana (second) and Cameroon’s Francois Oman-Biyik (third).
He became the second Algerian after former national teammate Lakhdar Belloumi (1981) to win the award.

HE WON 1990 AFCON ON HOME SOIL
At the AFCON 1990 in Algiers, Madjer captained the Algerian team that became African champions for the first time in their history.
In the final against Nigeria, Algeria won 1-0 thanks to Cherif Oudjani in the 38th minute.
Madjer’s two goals at the 1990 AFCON were in the 5-1 demolition of Nigeria in the opening game of the tournament.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF ALGERIA’S SQUAD TO THE 1982 AND 1986 FIFA WORLD CUPS
Algeria qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 1982 held in Spain with Madjer in the squad.
In the play-off round, Algeria eliminated Nigeria 4-1 on aggregate to qualify alongside Cameroon as Africa’s representatives.
And in the surprise 2-1 group stage win against favourite West Germany, Madjer scored Algeria’s first goal, making him the first man to achieve the feat for Algeria at the World Cup.
Madjer was in the Algeria squad to the FIFA 1986 World Cup held in Mexico.

HE COACHED ALGERIA TO THE MALI 2002 AFCON
After his first spell as Algeria coach from 1993 to 1995, Madjer was re-appointed in 2001.
He led the team to the Mali 2002 AFCON where they lost 1-0 to the Super Eagles in their first group game.
They eventually crashed out in the first round after later drawing with Liberia before losing to host Mali.

Well, some of the NFF board members were quoted hence my submission.

However, Simon Moses to West Brom, Brighton and h, and Monaco were carried by reputable foreign journals. Even Gent club manager was quoted mentioning names of clubs after Simon Moses.

Each time I hear that name Rabah Madjer, the first thing that still comes to my mind is that 5-1 thumping of Nigeria by Algeria at Algiers 90 opening game.

I wept uncontrollably.
Madger scored 2 goals and gave like 2 assists.

Prior to that game I had never seen Nigeria so beaten and humiliated.

That game till date is still our worst AFCON result and our worst defeat to any African side in modern day football history.

One billion like for dis post.do u knw y I don't take most of our unofficial scout serious here is DT,dey re not ROHR,all what dey say on dis forum,is just for dem to make demselves happy and wyle away time

Rohr av made it clear countless times in his interviews of his recent dt he would consider majorly those who were called up against Cameroon and zambia, barring no injuries to dem,

Peeps here, don't realise d importance of team chemistry and bonding, I just laff when some persons here will suggest an ogu to be dropped for ajagun or ezenwa to b dropped for AIYENUGBA and so on

Compiling of list goes beyond " FOOTBALL REASON",for example let us assume A Mikel obi loses form and its obvious,he would never b dropped for An AJAGUN/ALUKO,even if d later scores 100goals for deir teams respectively.

Mikels presence alone in d team goes beyond his performance on d pitch of play, its present in d team also lift d psyche of d young players around,Mikel is d PSEUDO assistant coach of our team. also some persons mite not b too gud eg echiejile, but if u ask me,God forbid,na Only DEATH fit stop echiejile from been on d plane to Russia, not even bad form.he would b rewarded for his commitment and also being a nucleus of d team who worked tirelessly for us to qualify, though he may not b a starter when d tournament starts, but he's going.

Having said DT,Rohr knows 90 percent of his team going to world cup,we shld only expect a lil change from his defence/striking dept of d team

That game till date is still our worst AFCON result and our worst defeat to any African side in modern day football history.

so what are you implying? another beating abi? shebi na those small boys una wan carry go Algiers? grin that's on a lighter note anyway. I will continue to maintain that the algerian match should be seen as a test run and one of our warm up games to the world cup just like the Argentina game that has been planned, we don't have enough time for experiment. The New coach will want to prove his mettle. anything less than a draw is unacceptable, reason we may need to see this match like the Argentina match.

Please tell them o! It's obvious many of them will make terrible coaches. Imagine changing 60% of your team who qualified you for the world cup. To them every new player is to be played as if SE is a training ground. SMH!

I bet if these guys were to coach Man U, Dortmund, or Chelsea, they will change the whole squad after their loses last weekend.

Imagine fa, everyday change this person, bring this player, I will remove this person and replace him with this person... Bla bla bla... Inexperience, ignorance and short memory in full display.

You all should remember 1998- Peter Rufai, 2002- Opabunmi, Ogbeche, 2014- Uchebo, and Co!

Make una carry una shortsightedness comot from our SE body because whether you like it or not 80-90% of this qualifying squad members will make the world cup.

To be forewarned is to be fore hand!

I rest my case

that is why we have not been doing doing well in the world cup since 1998 leaving 1994 as our best performance despite being a new comer. we shuffle our players like garri after we qualify and expect to win the world cup, who does that? the likes of rufai and even yekini of blessed memory had no business with the 1998 world cup as we had a team from the 1996 Olympics that was still in a killer mood. The 2008 olympic team would have fared better at the 2010 world cup in south africa like the 2009 u-20 Ghanaian team who formed the nucleus of the 2010 world team that did well. na sentiments we dey use kill our national team.

Team hunger is necessary for world cup glory, look at the costa rica team at the last world cup? how skillful were they but see how they dispatched the italian team.

Another beating say wetin?

In football there are certain names you see or hear that bring back memories whether good or bad ones.

Like each time English football faithfuls see or hear the name Marodona the next thing that comes to their mind is 'the hand of God' episode.

Each time the Egyptian fans here the name Beloumi the incident that led to the blinding of an Egyptian player comes to their mind.

Each time you see or hear the name Escoba, the Colombian player that got shot by his country men for scoring an own goal in the 1994 WC comes to mind.

Each time you hear the name Rodger Miller, his heroics at Italia 90 quickly comes to mind.

Each time you hear Platini and Tigana, Euro 84 comes to mind.

So na so e be me for Rabah Madjer.

Nigeria really needs to win this Algeria game. We have qualified yes but it is also important we end the race unbeaten. And I think this would be an all time record for any Nigerian team to the world cup.
Not like those days when due to unseriousness we will be losing away to teams like Liberia, Sudan, Gabon, Angola, Guinea etc.

Abeg try and be more regular here.

I always love your posts.Always Straight like an arrow to the point.

Many of us have refused to learn from our past mistakes. With the exception of 2006 we have been in all World cups since 1994 but we still don't carry along lessons learnt from our previous failures.

just kidding bruv, just emphasizing why this game should not really be seen as a mere formality, if Cameroon can still be beating algeria when they are already out of the world cup, why can't we just send signals to the rest of africa that we are back to the top of our game. But if na those small oyinbo boys we dey mention here we wan carry go algeria, well may be rabah madjer go use us shine as e dey do way back. This is why I say we don't have enough time for those childish experiments. am with you on this. We just have to give a very credible performance in that game.

Goke7 and realpoacher's posts just sparked some thing off my mind.

Can we do an x-ray of reasons for our failures in our last 5 participations?

Best way to solving a problem is actually to get to the root of the problem.

We as fans will not play for the Super Eagles in Russia. We are not part of the coaching crew. But we can make our own contributions by profiling the reasons for our 5 previous failures to go beyond the second round of the world cup.

As I have always said here, do not underestimate the contributions we make here. They go very far.
To be honest , some times, I feel Rohr and his crew get some things from here because we have seen things play out severally after we discuss them here.
Plus I know a couple of officials visit here. Eg Amuneke's U17 media officer and Siasia's late U23 media officer.

Most of us here know the history of Super Eagles participation and performances better than Rohr. So he may just learn a thing or two from us.

I expect opinions and counter opinions. All the same we can keep the discussion or arguments constructive.

To discuss this issue I need enough elders in the house as we may need to go back in time to address issues even from 1990 when Westerhof took over.
The younger generation too can equally contribute as a lot of those old games are available on YouTube.

enomakos, Kog45, forgiveness, tbaba1234, TheGoodJoe, Goldfish80, Michael2, Joseph1013, joebie, komekn, safarigirl, mujtahida, terzurum5, icon79, do4luv14, omanbala1, Chriskel, Chrisoblog, Orkpekyandega, Humility017, elyte89, Dedebanky85, soetanoreoluwa and many others.

It must not be in any order. Discuss any one you followed from 2014 to 1994.

my prayer is for rohr not to succumb to those dumb suggestions from journalists especially. Na dem pepper keshi until we started carrying yobo and ameobi to the last world cup. Every player just wants to be in the world cup for attendance but most players are not really hungry for performance. apart from echeijelle, even musa and omeruo probabaly will make the world cup. Experience counts at the global stage. we need those players who were at last world cup one at least in each of the defence, attack and midfield to have a good mix

Do you think Muazam has a chance to make the midfield to the World Cup?

I was actually looking at qatar 2022...i won't lie to you... My dream is Qatar 2022..and using Russia 2018 as a stepping stone..

So far Muazam is part of the set up of the team... He can join the team.. But I don't see him going to Russia...

Sorry if I can start, number 1 problem:
In 1998, 2002, 2010 world cups, we did not go with the coaches who qualified us for the world cups then. It took the Grace of God for keshi to make the last world cup. So our major problem is that we Nigerians, journalists, so called analysts who only play football with their mouths and fans in general always claim to know better than the coach. In 1998, we claim that phillip troussier was not good enough, in 2002, amodu and keshi were not good enough we said, 2010, amodu was not good enough as far we were concerned. if we posted good performances then, our claims would have been justified but the bad performances of the team proved we were wrong in our judgement.

Already some folks think rohr is not good enough, if he were black, rohr would have been sacked by now.
