Seun: As a sole proprietor, I entered business with the initial goal of making as much money as I would have gained if I was a University graduate earning a 'good salary'. Unfortunately, I have never been in the job market, so I have no idea what a good salary is!

So I need your help. What kind of salaries are graduates earning in various industries (banking, IT, consulting, et cetera)? What constitutes a 'good salary' in Nigeria, especially the Lagos area? I want to know so I can set a definite monthly income target. Thanks.

Salary will never be enough and there is nothing like good salary. I say this because a good salary is one that suits your needs and you are able at least to save something,. Now our needs vary from person to person depending on the kind of lifestyle you live.

High earners have got a high standards of living and their spending habits are more while low earners have lower standards of living. Is not a surprise to see people who earn 6 figure salaries in debts even before the month is over. Some have mortgages to pay, entertainment, bills of about half their salaries e.t.c they spend all their salaries on this and have little to save.

So good salary is where you spend and at least save something regardless of the amount you get.

I begin to wondered while we negnect those working under one man or privite limited companies, are they not Nigerian? Are they not university graduate? are they not intelligent? Most of them receive less than #20,000/ month as total salary, especially those working in private schools.
Pls how can we help these people out? because we have thesame
certificates.

Our law makers can do good by passing a law that will set a bench mark for all levels other than the minimum wage in collaboration with labor union. So if a sole proprietor employs say a B.Sc holder and is expected to pay N80,000/month on the mininmum and goes on to pay a naira short; the contry's labor union being the enforcer of the law is supposed to have a representative(anonymous) in all registered companies across the country who informs labor on the condition of pay. Thereby such employer can be queried and can. either rightly(with severance pay) terminate all the B.Sc holders he's employed and go for lower certifications for his capacity or review their pay to standard. But this is in a country where things work properly, BTW a million miles walk starts with a step. Let's start walking,we never can tell. (I.e My opinion)

My brother you are right! Abuja is not easy ooo! House rent not a child's play. With the recent ban on 'araba' buses more people are feeling the crunch but if you plan well and cut on unnecessary expenses you will pull through.

Reading altru the comments, the salary range for most graduates is between 25k to 40k. I wonder what this country is becoming, the youth seem to have no future, we have grew to settle for less.

When I was about finishing NYSC, I called a colleague up and asked him "What kind of job can someone do in Nigeria to start earning about 250k per month atleast after working 2 years?". We brainstormed and couldn't conclude on any.

Later, he gave me dis option, "get a fed government appointment and become a director, that will guarantee you about 1M salary per month." My sincere question was "how many years will it take me to become the director?" Maybe btw ur 25th - 35th year in service, he replied, wow!, this looks ridiculous to me coz I was not Willing to wait that long to start to start earning millions.

Fortunately for me, I came across a book titled "The Four Year Career Plan." I read and applied what is therein, my story has since then changed. I never knew it was possible to work just 4years and retire. I m in my 2nd year in the career anyway and it has been amazing.

If you are serious minded and will like to change your life with me, jst whatsapp me:07030091006. I will be ready to unleash my secret without leaving anything out.

sir,

"can me and my friend become a milli 0naire
from doing this online business?"

That was the question, one of my
student ''paul'' asked me about

And like most newbies, he has
already tried several online money
making programs like

- surveys

- referral

- HYIP

- Paid to read emails

- Data entry etc.

But none worked.

They made him a fool of himself. He spent
m0ney buying crappy ebooks and
guides that do not work but even tend
to confuse him and make him lose
more m0ney.

Can you imagine?

Truth be told, I fell into that rubbish too!

Some 4 years ago, I tried different
MLM programs, and many stuffs
that didn't work for me.

But just ONE internet business made me
good income...

That is the same business that worked
for my subscriber "paul"...

I mean the business of importing from asian company, uk and Dubai products that he started selling
using his mobile phone

I helped him with my ''importation guide'' and I am doing it for only 20 people

(16 slots are gone already... so just 4 people left
to register and benefit from it)

See details here:
http://incomebusinessfornigeria.info

No, the business didn't turn him into a
millionaire overnight...

But at least he started making an
extra legitimate income of N60,000
every month

Even at times, he sells up to 4 of his imported products in just
a day... and earn over N10,000
almost everyday

sometimes it depends on the institutions. Top IT firms will pay higher than midclass firms. GTBank and I think Zenith are one of the highest paying... see http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/what-nigerian-banks-pay-their-workers.115180/.

Another contributing factor will be your certifications and level of competency

Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by DocGeekster: 10:04am On Jun 25, 2016
This is a good thread........the answer is much more complex than one would imagine I guess. I am setting up a business in Lagos and tried recruiting personnel via informal routes (friend of friends, acquaintances in Nigeria, children of whoever with valid degress etc etc etc). I have been quite frankly underwhelmed by the calibre so far. A friend tried to explain this (few examples below. The list is however endless):

1. Unrealistic expectations amongst some jobseekers: A young man in IT wanted 500k /month. He is 2 years post NYSC, has never been gainfully employed after that but expected this because his equivalent in other industries were earning that amount. He is suffering financially, from a very modest background and his dad had pleaded with me so I thought I would interview him. Sorry to say, I had to decline after the interview (no vision, few aspirations/expectations if it was not financial, could not present the specified documents required, fumbling with basic questions etc)
2. Greed: see 1 above
3. Employer ignorance and arrogance; a number of Nigerian employers do not pay salaries which are commensurate to level of skill/economic needs etc. some even fail to pay for a few months. "You pay peanuts and end up with monkeys". If you pay below appropriate scale, then your employee will inevitably become disillusioned and full of angst. She/He will remain distracted ( looking for alternative sources of income and have no pride in her/his job) and the employer will become frustrated, questioning and cursing the day (rather unfairly) they employed him/her.
4. The Nigerian factor. This is a serious issue (i can hear my nigerian friends yawning or shouting here). Transport, fuel crisis, epileptic power, water, corruption, currency fluctuations etc inevitably means our day to day business runnings vary wildly and widely due to the financial
fluctuations.
I still remain hopeful despite success and horror stories with regards to job recruitment and placements I have heard from friends who are employing staff.
