So Nigeria should continue as the dumping round of all kinds of Made in Chuna junk, because Customs want to collect more duty? Where is the USD to fund that? I am dissapointed that a CEO will push this kind of argument. We want more local production and export. If China can produce, so can we. |

I recalled in January, same blame occured because of Custom inability to meet her goal. APC lacks coherent policy, it is obvious that custom generate revenue through importation but the country want to move away from that then how do we expect both goals to be met without proper planning. This is what economic team suppose to achieve. 2 Likes |

Useless brainless heads. Why will you be complaining of fall in revenue due to import duties, are you not aware of excise duties too? If the Dullard of Daura had put the economy on the right path, Excise duty will be more gainful to us than Import duty. 1 Like |

Imagine the report of last quarter of 2015, #230b already lost. That was when Nigeria was still relatively better, just imagine what the first quarter of 2016 will look like. This Buhari scam FG should brace up to borrow more money to pad their already padded scam budget, because more cash cows will fall short of their projected revenue by the time quarterly reports troop in. And l vividly remember this customs CG bragging, they will surpass their target, and l laughed in China; 'chin chin chon chii. For you to be a good manager and leader, you need statistical sense for proactive and realizable projections. When importers are restricted both on accessibility of forex and on certain items previously on Customs list, what do you expect. Buhari appointed his kinds all around him, people who use common sense rather than proved economic models.. 1 Like |

Dee60: Are you aware that Customs was given a revenue target based on the same 'dumping from China'. Why was there a revenue target on import duties, why not just restrict it to excise duties and export duties? 1 Like |

Dee60:is it not double standards, you want to ban imports yet want the whole world to embrace your goods...entitlement mentality, Nigeria should focus in exporting raw materials and forget manufactured goods we cannot be a global manufacturing country dependent on NEPA |

It is obvious that these people do not know what they are doing, they should humble themselves and start reading Nairaland. This lost of revenue was projected here by so many people when the restriction on import on certain items and CBN policies started. People proffered excellent ideas here on how it could be avoid but they would not listen. Now that the chicks have come home to roast, the blame game has become the order of the day. 1 Like |

So much cluelessness. I find it sad. This CBN policy, which by the way is Buhari's policy (he has said so on two occassions) is not the best. I sha hope they know what they are doing. |

For Hameed Ali, the Comptroller General of Nigerian Custom Service Sir, I had to go to Wikipedia to get you this: An excise or excise tax (sometimes called a special excise duty) is an inland tax on the sale, or production for sale, of specific goods or a tax on a good produced for sale, or sold, within a country or licenses for specific activities. Excises are distinguished from customs duties, which are taxes on importation. So if the revenue from custom duty is falling, it presents us with an opportunity to grow our local industries so that we can increase in Excise duty. I think doing that is far better than calling for increase in importation, just so we could raise the custom duty. |

ayusco85: We can employ some foreigners to occupy some of these positions. Especially, the presidency, the legislature, judiciary, armed forces, CBN, etc. After all, the president of Bank of England is a Canadian. The above are all jobs with remuneration. No need to sell the zoo outright. Get some foreigners to keep it. I am very convinced that that albino from the East is right. When the great Fela was singing about zombies, suffering and smiling and all the other prophetic songs, Nigerians thought he was under the influence if ganja. Alas, he saw what was coming decades ago. Soja go, Soja come! From one idiiot to another. |

chigoizie7: Good analogy. Buhari just happened the economy was managed magically. He looked at all sources of money (not necessarily revenue) and just makes independent decisions without looking at d big picture. Eg. TSA vs banking and domestic economy, CBN vs fx rates & impact on imports, anti corruption fight vs local and even int business. The confusion too much jare. |
