I think it depends on the bands supported by ur device. I use Samsung Galaxy s6 which supports multiple bands and my 4g is always on whenever I turn on my data. Mtn 4g is not lte but it is pretty fast on compatible devices. I think mtn 4g band is not supported by all devices. For example if I take my mtn sim and put it on my iPhone, it shows only 3g. Normally I phones categorize 3g, 3.5g and hadpa+ all as 3g. So they have only 3 bands, 2g, 3g and LTE..MTN doesn't have lte yet so it is pointless switching to lte as it will be draining battery, I reserve that for ntel.

Even at that I still get 12mbps with my mtn on my iPhone, check pic below. But with the same sim in my s6 with 4g displayed I get 18mbps. So it all depends on the bands supported by ur device and the network. This is why I think a lot of 4g phones might not actually work to full potential on ntel.

What variant of S6 do you own? I mean the specific model? You can see this in the "About" section of Settings.

Not all Networks support all Bands
Some networks are strictly Lte
E.g
Swift
Spectranet
Smile e.t.c

Bro if u goin to go into calling and d likes den u must provide other bands.

Ntel said dey are providing sim cards for xalling and sms and not dongle like spectranet, swift and d likes.

Remember dey said " d fifth network provider" dat means swift, smile,, spectranet aint network providers

I want to correct a notion here that alot of people have been making. There's this misconception that all 4G providers must natively provide legacy 2G and 3G service. This is generally the case but isn't a hard carved rule.

Each of these services 2G, 3G or 4G requires spectrum to be purchased which costs a lot of money. This is regulated by NCC.

If NTEL have not purchased any bands in the 2G/3G spectrum according to 3GPP standards, then they cannot support that service.

Right question now would be, has NTEL been allocated spectrum for 2G or 3G? This is something I don't know about and hence can't make comments on.

I hope this is clear enough.

Regards.

I stand to b corrected though.
Bt if u providing ur network for calling sms and d likes den u must provide other bands.

Now why did dey claim to b d fifth network?

Dats because spectran, smile, swift aint telecommunications network bt dongles.

As u can c, dia sim can b used on any fone bt can u use ur smile on a fone apart frm dia dongle?

So ntel is a normal network provider, thus provide other bands

SM-G920T.
I thought as much. That's the T-Mobile variant. T-Mobile coin their H+ as 4G.

I'm sorry but I couldn't quite comprehend what your message was.

Please, could you clarify?

U are right, some networks call their H+ 4g or 3.5g.. too many terms that are interconnected. I think H+ is the bridge between 3g and true 4g LTE. Like I said in my previous post, I know mtn does not have LTE so what I'm getting is just an H+ but somehow pretty faster on my phone than I've seen on other phones. The mobile call their H+ 4g because they upgraded their service to almost match the speed of LTE .

Spectranet, etc you mentioned I believe aren't mobile network providers and hence shouldn't be brought into this discuss. Spectranet I know uses Point-to-Point Radio I.e. high capacity packet microwave system. They are Telecommunication networks as you call them BUT NOT Mobile Network Providers.

Based on these I believe your argument is invalid, and as I said earlier, If they don't have spectrum in the allocated bands of 2G or 3G they can't offer services on these bands.

There's some similarities between 2G and 3G architecture, however 4G is slightly different as the Radio Access Network is totally different. 3GPP standards remain 2G, 3G and 4G. The other interesting names are all industry terms to confuse us humans.

Very correct. That is why iphones only have 3 modes, GSM, 3G and LTE. Even if u are on H+, iphone will display 3G. Good because it is straightforward, but I think it is also nice to be able to differentiate when u are on mere 3G and H+

Just put it this way

4G LTE is like a ferrari, designed to be fast while H+ is like a modified camry (3G) that has its conventional engine swapped for a v8 with added body kits for better aerodynamics. It would be faster than normal 3G but not as fast as a ferrari.
