Never has there been a time in history when so much is being expected from women. She's expected to be a housewife who manages the affairs of the home with love, care, understanding, wisdom , God bless her and she's unlucky to have a man that doesn't like house helps, she has to go the market on her own, buy foodstuffs, comes back home exhausted, she still has to cook for the family, clean up the kitchen afterwards, serve everyone, and do the dishes after (assuming her children are not of age yet). At times, when little issues abound, the husband will even complain that the meal is tasteless after all these efforts just to get back at her!!!  She's expected to be a mother to nurse and care for her children and see to their needs. If she is still a nursing mum, she has to wake up nothing less than two times in the middle of the night to feed her baby I.e if her baby isn't too demanding .She wakes up very early in the morning. , bathes her children, dress them up, feed them and she takes them to school before taking care of herself. At times, the husband helps in taking the kids to school but the onus falls on her most times.She has to help them with assignments (if they are grown) from school when they get back in the evening. She's a wife to satisfy her husband's need emotionally, physically and spiritually. Most men would never take no for an answer!! You wonder why she's too tired to even initiate love making? It is because she is too exahuasted!! You wonder why she doesn't even bother to dress in a sexy nightie just to arouse you?? It is because all that is on her mind is just " God, please let me just get some few hours sleep before dawn and I start my crazy schedules" She forgoes her favorite TV channels just so you and the children can switch between ESPN and Cartoon Network She's a career woman who has to pursue her own dreams and make sense out of her gifts and talents and life's aims. She's a professional who must balance her professional obligation with that of her family duties. She has to make out time to visit your family especially else she will be tagged as rude,proud,not well trained...to say but few Your friends will come and disturb the few hours she has to herself during weekends and she musy make them feel at home. Haba!!! And she must satisfy all these convincingly in a world where so much is expected from the modern woman. If she neglects the family a bit for her career, she's called a bad wife. If she sacrifices her career and job for the family she is tagged a lazy woman or "ordinary" house wife. What does the modern society really want from women of today because I just don't get it? Is it until we lay our lives down in the line before our efforts are acknowleged [b]Read this story I culled from a social media My Wife DOES NOT WORK !!! Conversation between a Husband (H) and a Psychologist (P): P : What do you do for a living Mr. Bandy? H : I work as an Accountant in a Bank. P : Your Wife ? H : She doesn't work. She's a Housewife only. P : Who makes breakfast for your family in the morning? H : My Wife, because she doesn't work. P : At what time does your wife wake up for making breakfast? H : She wakes up at around 5 am because she cleans the house first before making breakfast. P : How do your kids go to school? H : My wife takes them to school, because she doesn't work. P : After taking your kids to school, what does she do? H : She goes to the market, then goes back home for cooking and laundry. You know, she doesn't work. P : In the evening, after you go back home from office, what do you do? H : Take rest, because i'm tired due to all day works. P : What does your wife do then? H : She prepares meals, serving our kids, preparing meals for me and cleaning the dishes, cleaning the house then taking kids to bed. Whom do you think works more, from the story above  The daily routines of your wives commence from early morning to late night. That is called 'DOESN'T WORK'??!! Yes, Being Housewives do not need Certificate of Study, even High Position, but their ROLE/PART is very important! Appreciate your wives. Because their sacrifices are uncountable. The modern society has not fully grasp the role of the modern woman!!! She is expected to be multitasking and still adapt to modern trends without sacrificing any of her conventional duties and roles. shaybebaby: Wrong!!! Our grand mothers were never laughed at for not getting an education or or being a career woman!!! Today's wives are expected to be literate, housewives, mothers, professionals and still do the home duties our grandmothers did. I think the society is in a crosscroad on what is expected of today's wife. A full career lady with a blend of home management and domestic flare or a full-time house wife who can still act professionally by hosting her husband's friends in a sophisticated manner and escorting him to business luncheons! 2 Likes |

mimzy: I'll begin by making some reference at the boldened: please feel free to call me sexist .A woman's gifts and talent is primarily to assist her husband in any capacity he may find useful. She is to complement him. That's her primary purpose in life. Secondly, is for her to raise Godly children that will grow up and shape the society in uprightness and sound judgment. She will be fulfilled if she achieve these. Anything else, is just for by the way. A housewife is a priceless jewel. She is a full time worker. Her husband's backbone and LLOD ( Last Line Of Defence). But there shouldn't be a complete housewife. There are plenty of career path that don't interfere negatively with motherhood and fulfilling her husband's need. Nice post though. |

Lezzlie:Bro, society has never been able to define any thing. Anything that defy's scientific analysis is often subjected to different form of misinterpretation, thus making that thing full of opinions, (informed and un-informed) and you and I know opinions are like butt holes... Society doesn't need to define who the modern wife is, what her duties are and what have you. The couples involved do that, as society doesn't even help them in making their home a success. I'll always maintain that, marriage is a very personal thing, and it involves two people coming together to sit down, and agree on how to make their lives and home better. I'll say this, any couple who wait and let society define what their roles and duties are, will find themselves according to D'banj "On A Long Thing". 3 Likes |
