The traffic on that road holds record in Abuja because of the low cost of accommodation on that axis and they worsened it by putting speed breakers last Saturday. As at 10pm when it was supposed to have subsidised, it looked worse couple with the rain that fell yesterday. It was hell!!!!

Why would someone even think of putting speed bumps in a road that already entertains the biggest traffic in the whole of abuja if it isn't pure wickedness? "They are suffering let give them more hell" that's it. They don't give a hute about the people afterall the VIPS don't use that route. That's the way it is, the masterplan only takes care of their interests

Speedbumps can't be the main reason for the traffic.
Speed bump is the reason for this traffic gridlock. The speed bumps are by kugbo area along that road (3-double speed bumps), this was put in place to reduce the accidents by that kugbo area, but sincerely what they need there is a fly over bridge and not speed bumps.

Used to stay in karu Site but this deadly traffic drove us to town. Only people who stay in these places the OP mentioned will understand and show empathy...the rest will only be sympathetic or show no concern but this is really HELL. I know how this place used to be without speed bumps in the evenings and mornings and I wonder what it will be like now with the speed bumps installed.

Abuja will be worst than Lagos in few years to come. Nigeria is not organise country, and we don't care to plan for future.

Even though d situation is disheartening, the headline is deceptive. Speed bumps cannot cause this kind of traffic.

Instead of speed breakers, why not build pedestrian bridge,,, we like suffering in dis country......

Speed ko, bump ni. Our road no good picture of d bump
If you stay in that area, you'll know exactly what it is. This particular issue is currently causing rancor between Road Safety , FERMA and FCTA who actually gave the directive for the construction of the bumps.
I see the construction of the bumps as barbaric and so cruel. I can bet it that the those bumps would be removed before the end of today.

I kown they will remove the speed bumps today, I pass through that road on Saturday very close to this grid lock which is weekend, federal government needs to do something on that road, even without speed bumps, that route is a big shame to the government everyday. In 2003 the traffic started from old CBN, deeper life, power house junction which is inside Abuja city, They find solutions to that area, the poor people on maraba, karu, are facing the grid music now.

Daily users of the road are telling you the speed bump is responsible for the traffic and you are here arguing otherwise. I was in that traffic for over 2 hours yesterday and there was a free movement immediately after the bumps at kugbo, so tell me, what's the cause of the traffic?

The only way you can understand is if you witness the kind traffic that is on that road daily, not to talk of when bumps are added into the mix.

my brother i was in a car going home from work yesterday and i said exactly the same thing yesterday till the car got to the speed bumbs.

I was so shocked that any right thinking human being could do such a thing when what was really needed on that bottle neck road was an overhead bridge.

we have some really DAFT decision makers in our midst.

i still can not believe that a group of people with good brains in their heads sat down and thought of such a thing, did their feasibility check and went ahead to do such a dumb thing. They even decorated it with a ZEBRA CROSSING SIGN.
hahaahahaha.

This goes to show the type of decision makers we have in very important organisations in Nigeria

Passed there yesterday on my way to Goshen about noon. No traffic but it didn't make any sense to me and was sure it will cause a hell of a gridlock. Can't imagine why. The road (an expressway) is meant to be protected from encroachment rather than protect people from passing vehicles which I suspect. When you slow traffic in Nigeria you create 'market' activities which further slows traffic and causes more encroachment. It is a bad, viscious cycle. The government should rather insist on the 'right of way' (50 metres for an expressway) and push pedestrians and development back.

GBAM! I was about to say this. Speed bumps where put in place because of Kugbo residents who should not be in that location in the first place. That's a major expressway and vehicles should be doing 95Km/h to 100Km/h there !

OP, that is no speed bumps. It is a usual traffic. That road leads to Nyanya, mararaba, Karo, Massaka. Those are the people that work inside town but live in the outskirts of Abuja. It happens every single day. What your are seeing in the right hand lane will still happen to the left hand lane in the morning.

Then you have not visited Nyanya/Karu area in a long time. I was over there during the weekend ,I've seen the bumps and my folks who regularly ply that road complained bitterly about the bumps on phone to me yesternight. So what are you saying?
