@ MANGAM: Sorry about your loss. I read about how this pest has wrecked havoc to approximately 40% of tomato yields expected mostly from the northern region. Funny enough, I was going through videos on Youtube on how to construct cheap greenhouse using available and locally sourced materials. I focused on the ones built by rural farmers in Kenya. Now, I'm saying to myself: A Nigerian farmer who had adopted this approach before this calamity struck would be making crazy money right now! It's all a challenge, and one should see the opportunity in such calamities. This pest attack is bound to repeat in a few more planting seasons from now. With a greenhouse supplied with drip irrigation, you can plant anytime, and pests are mostly eliminated. Here are some of the relevant video clips. Wish you well, bro. Innovation is the way to go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy72pRX6hJw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obsLwew-NT0 32 Likes 6 Shares |

Thanks @ whirlwind7, just went thru the videos. Greenhouse farming is the only way out. The north is very conservative place. Pple here are not open to modern techniques. Will give it a try 4 Likes 1 Share |

MANGAM: Brother! That's exactly what should give you an edge! Look, this means u would have less people competing with u during off seasons. Their being conservative and unwilling to try out new ideas is a bonus to anyone around there who dares. Remember the saying that in the country of the blind, the one eyed man is king? You should capitalize on the weakness and shortcomings in your area. Be the pioneer. What you should do once u have a greenhouse is, concentrate on planting during offseason, such that your harvest will have more value. You harvest when the commodities have become scarce and expensive in the markets Not just tomatoes, but watermelon, cucumber, green peppers etc. I want you to begin laughing at yourself after you read this. You have a ready made environment to prepare you for success! 26 Likes 1 Share |

There is simple trap (bio-based) used here in Kenya to easily control Tuta Absoluta, it draws them to it and get stuck and die. The small consumable in the trap that attracts them is replaced every 2 months. 4 Likes 1 Share |

All our agricultural extension programms and agricultural lecturers are just a shameful lot. The day I heard of total absoluta. I just Google and find out about pheromones trap combined with light solution. Just a small device and these moths are quickly dealt with. All of them keep talking trash and not acting fast. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Blame the GMO pedlars and their Nigerian corroborator s who happen to be very powerful and too rich, albeit from unwholesome and genetically modified foods that Nigerians consume which is the reason for upsurge in cancer cases. If you know the role Obama, Clinton and one billionaire from the north is playing in Ebola tomatoes in Nigeria, you will embark on thirty days of prayers and fasting to stop Clinton from becoming the next US president. Africa will continue to be Guinea pigs for experiment and systematic depopulation through GMO products. It's neo-colonialism. You may not understand this great secret. But just know that the scarcity of tomatoes in Nigeria and the Ebola tomatoes is man made.Sorry! 7 Likes |
