whatever happened to taking risk or better still asking for other people's review before updating.

My advise for anyone thinking of updating is to: ask for others review; keep a backed up version of your present rom incase of issues with the new update. And you don't need to update if it's not a major jump, there are no serious issues with your present version, no new interesting features that you really like to try out in the change log.

Personally, it took me a while to update from MiUi 8 to 9, but it happened to be the best update for my device. I am currently on 9.0.5.0 and I'm planning to join the 9.5 crew soon na data no dey

In addition, at some point, such advice was given but
with a caveat: "if your current ROM isn't buggy, you might as well, ignore." This is either cuz there's no much difference between the queried ROM and the previous OR cuz the queried ROM is buggy. Besides, as the queen earlier said, who will control me over my phone!

Naaa, there is no scape goat and no hatred at least from me, this issue of updating or not has been here from day one, but we never had a case where someone was like an authority over any form of update. We have actually discouraged people from updating to some particular roms here, miui 8.2.10.0 comes to mind, but not from updating at all. We don't need to even make this an issue, what must be said must be said.

If you mean your rom itself, you can download it (either recovery or fastboot rom) from miui. If you mean the contents of the files in your rom, you have to copy your media and other files to an external memory, then backup your settings, notes etc with your stock backup from settings - Additional settings - Backup and reset - Local Backups.

I have personally not done a full nandroid backup before on any android mobiles have owned without the use of more advanced mods/apps like TWRP (gurus here can help clarify this part) but I feel a backup of important apps' data, settings, syncing of contacts; notes; messages with MiCloud and transferring of media files to external storage should be enough.
Another important thing is to download and keep both fastboot and recovery version of a particular rom version you feel is stable and works well(this should at least be a little recent).This will ensure you have something to fall back on if any update go wrong.

I just bought my xiaomi redmi note 5 prime today nd I set my glo to 3G only but it automatically change to E by itself
