Very soon, Buhari will make CBN the only bank in Nigeria, same way he tried to make NNPC the sole importer and distributor of PMS and failed. By then, he will have us queue for essential commodities such as milk, sugar, salt, tomatoes, pepper, etc. It happened in 1983/84, when people were forced to close down their businesses and que up for essential commodities, so don't expect any difference now... 6 Likes |

TippyTop:Giant stride indeed, the problem started before GEJ left, remember started devaluation before he left and he borrowed to pay salaries towards end of his tenure, when we discuss what affects our lives, we should be apolitical, politicians take care of themselves only, they don't care about us. PMB made the situation worse by delaying government start up and should have devalued to like N225 when he came in, now we may devalue to like N300 which will make every one poor who kept his/her fund in Naira poorer with very high inflation. 2 Likes |

Dollarised over leveraged noneconomy. Greece loading . Iweala and Jonathan did a hit job on Nigeria. Textbook shock therapy ( watch video below) We all knew where we were heading during the subsidy protest. I will take my time to gather some of the resources ( books , articles and videos ) for those who are interested. If Nigeria cannot ride out the storm and fall into the hands of the IMF, expect almost everything owned by the federal government to be sold . This includes NNPC and those oil blocks . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxxOIfrtYYY |

Remii: Compare to the suffering now, Dr Jonathan and his team were geniuses. Buhari is not known to be a patient listener or a good economist, yet his ministers are in awe of him. No one dare advice Bubu on the way forward, therein lies our problems. Bubu is Mr-know-it-all. 3 Likes |

Tbest20: Talking of bad luck, did you suffer like this under his administration? Buhari is bad luck personified, there's a reason God prevented him from ruling for 30yrs. We disobeyed God by voting a cattle rearer, managing the lives of his citizens like he does his cows. 3 Likes |

If you are expecting in-depth and professional opinion on this matter, definitely not here. Most of the comments here are born out of sentiments, hate and superficial knowledge of the economy. However, what I can say is, the situation is not as bad as OP painted it. His post was born out of mischief, propaganda and ridicule current government. 3 Likes |

TippyTop:its neither her nor there, GEJ solved fuel problem with uncontrolled subsidy payout, spending almost all our income on subsidy, even unbudgeted, so in a way the evil days were postponed by GEJ. With low inflow, how can we continue uncontrolled subsidy? GEJ should have stuck his gun in 2012 by removing the subsidy and he would have had 3 years to prove he was right. PMB is also making mistake of just price increase to meet forex market forces instead of full deregulation. |

No where in the publication was it hinted that first Bank would go bankrupt. False Alarm. Mods do the needful, the caption should be changed. First Bank will just have to set aside more naira earnings to cover their foreign currency NPLs which will hurt profitability. It takes a whole lot for a bank like this to go bankrupt, if they do, Nigeria may not survive it. 2 Likes 1 Share |
