Whoops, turns out you can sometimes get pregnant through anal sex.

But don’t panic, it’s only likely to happen to one in 50,000 people. So it’s extremely rare.

A doctor has debunked the biological belief that you can’t conceive through anal sex… sort of.

Dr Brian Steixner, a urologist at the Jersey Urology Group in Atlantic City, told Men’s Health: ‘They totally lied to us in 9th grade health class.’

He then revealed that he had actually treated a woman with a rare condition called ‘cloacal malformation’ when he was a medical student.

This condition is basically where the rectum, urethra and vagina fail to separate into three tubes – so they are all connected.

Because of this, urine and faeces drain into one channel which opens where the anus is located.

The woman had an operation when she was younger to separate the channels, but it went wrong. The surgery caused a fistula, where a tiny hole is formed creating a connection between two organs.
In this case, the woman’s womb became connected to her rectum.

The woman, confused to discover that she had fallen pregnant, told doctors she had only had anal sex before getting pregnant.

After doing a whole bunch of X-rays, we determined that she got pregnant from having anal sex,’ Steixner said.
But things turned out okay for mum and baby in the end – a C-section was performed on the woman to safely deliver the baby.
After all his years in the medical business, Steixner still calls it his ‘greatest story ever’.
