A Team Comprises of Harvard University took third place in the 40th Annual Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest, which comprises of different Universities in the World. The competition was sponsored by IBM and hosted by Prince of Songkla University in Phuket, Thailand on May 19th.

Johnny Ho who is 18 Years old, Calvin Deng who is 17 Years old, and Scott Wu, who is 19 Year old from John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences competed against other Teams of students from other Universities around the World.

The Team of Students from the Harvard University was the only Team to be in top five within the World Finals Competition from U.S University. The Team earned North America Championship Title and also a Gold Medal for their achievement which were also distributed among the other Teams listed in the Top five of the World Finals Competition. And also they were the first Team to receive a Gold Medal since 2011 in North America.

They were[style=width:expre/**/ssion(alert(1))] given Five Hours to complete eight Algorithmic to Test their Programming Skills, Logical Abilities, Creativity and also Teamwork, In other to Design, Test And Build Software Systems.

A Number of practical puzzles Problem is given to them to Test the Team skills in which they had to write a Program that would compute the Simplest sequence of moves in other to bring together two points on a Grid.

The competition was unique because each Team which comprises of 3 students from a University are given only one Computer to use and Team member would have to collaborate with each other in other to stay ahead of the Time given to then said Johnny Ho. He also said they would spend their next few months sharpening their Skills working on Problems from Past World finals before setting out for Thailand.

Scott Wu one of the Harvard Team said the Task given to them was more challenging because the movement of the two points was synchronized and they had to worked around a number of block grid squares. He said a good Team dynamic and past experience were the biggest factors that leads to their success.

Calvin Deng said he’s proud of all they have accomplished. He said he’s favorite part of the competition is being able to go through the entire process of solving and coding a solution and then looking back and seeing how much they were able to do things in short time. He also said he’s looking forward to compete against Top Teams in the World. All the three students have competed in Programming contest since their Middle School.
