patrickdarlins, please get a lawyer. Go to a decent chamber and hire the services of a lawyer for the mechanic. This is a new scam that greedy policemen have adopted to extort hard-working Nigerians (and God will punish them). Even if you pay the 300k, there is no guaranty they won't ask for more. The Nigerian Police don't like dealing with lawyers. If possible, get a court order to force the telecom provider to release the details of the individual who deposited the car. This is a set-up and they are all in it. 1 Like 1 Share |

This whole incidence is similar to the confession of one robber that the police man uses to set people up.They make money from these deals illegitimately. Since when did policemen become judges. Is the 300k payment of fine? Poor man trying to erk a living they want to frustrate. If u want justice pursue it. Y'all should get a lawyer. Trace that number and get the man that dropped d car. After they have all been apprehended and case heard, sue for damages. 1 Like |

Those three are rogues, partners in crime. Get a very good lawyer of competent jurisdiction. Never give a dime as that will implicate you. The Almighty God will vindicate you; He shall fight for you while you will hold your peace IJN. 1 Like |

Try and get a good and conscientious lawyer but try as much as possible for the matter not to get to court because if it eventually gets there you might spend two times the amount and the case might take up to 5 years and above. Speaking from experience 1 Like |

My neutrality and advise case goes below. No one can be trusted these present days. The mechanic might have been in this business with car snatchers or smugglers for so long but backfire with chorts who knows police or Informants to get money from him on how successful he had been in the business. 2ndly, he may be innocent truly as this issue might be staged or planned well against him, but for what reason or basis. 3rdly, we need to get necessary facts from this mechanic guy as below. For how long as the mechanic known or been dealing with this existing owner of the said car, does he know his place of work, his residence for him to collect car key ?. How can a mechanic collect car keys from a stranger or prospective customers that he had never seen before or knows nothing about him or her. If he wants to play safe next time peradventure he comes out of this mess and these advcies is not accliamed not only to mechanics but other works of life too. He shud apply the above tips via the poster of this on NL that wants to help. But, i have a solution for Nigeria Govt. I am an analyst in automation engring, for every self-employed business owners must run a background check to confirm rightful owners tagged to the authenticity of commodities. A system can be created within a very short time but will the political cabals accept this ideas to encourage someone like me. |

izzou: [b]Lol.. I'm sorry o! But there is a reason why they say; "Ignorance is not an excuse". A judge would always rule based on the provision of the law not based on sentiments. If your friend steals a Television and sells it to you and you buy it.. Your friend is guilty of Theft, you are guilty of receiving stolen property. Always do your due diligence before buying anything. 1 Like |

The most important thing is for the OP to put the demand of N300, 000 on record for evidence purpose. Once that is done, it becomes easier to pursue the case in court. It may take time and some pain but the police will be nailed. I believe being convicted for receiving stolen goods involves knowledge that the goods being received is stolen. The mechanic is in the ordinary course of his business. You need a good lawyer though. |

patrickdarlins: Make sure you get a lawyer to release him on bail at the police station before he is charged to court, otherwise he might spend months (if not years) awaiting trial. From your brief explanation, it is not a bad case if, 1. The accused is a known auto-mechanic with a known office address. 2. If he was seen within a distance not too far from his shop, close enough to show that he was in a test driving. 3. If he has the phone number of his customer and records can show that there was no other kind of conversation but that of car fixing. 1 Like 1 Share |

The Case is indeed a pathetic one. My advise below: Having reviewed the case, there are two sides to it...it could be inferred that it is a pure case of a set-up and the new way fraudsters dupe innocent people of their hard earned money. Secondly, it is possible that the car was actually stolen and based on some stroke of luck, it was traced to your friend's workshop. Having said the above, a quick way to catch the assailant, is to work with the Network providers (which network is the man using? we have a very good experience in this area) from this, we are able to deduce his location and apprehend him. Although there are ways to do this...you can contact us Thirdly, get a lawyer immediately, who will buy more time for your friend and do a counter petition on your behalf, detailing the facts of the case as well as your integrity and asking for a compensation and also requesting for your bail. The offence is bailable under our laws. afterall, it still a mere allegation. Finally, you can contact us if you require more help with this...jopara@jcamplegalsolutions.com 1 Like |
