​Sky Sports have revealed that the Rafa Benitez signature comes with full control of player recruitment at the club, as well as the fixed budget to be used for both the summer and winter transfer windows. They claim that Benitez will be officially confirmed in the role for the long term later on Wednesday.

The ex-Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss travelled from his home in Merseyside this morning to finalise the deal and negotiate formalities within his contract.

Having signed a three-year deal in March off the back of former boss Steve McLaren's exit from Tyneside, the 56-year-old was rumoured to have a clause in his contract that allowed for a cancellation should the club be relegated from the Premier League.
