Most homes make use of black water storage tanks. Why are they preferred over other coloured ones?

I don't know too. But according to a plumber, who works for my mum, he said its better d tank is blck so dat d water won't be colored. I don't know how he got his theory o. But I tink he's right cos we have a black and blue tank, d blue tank's water is alws colored (green) we tot it was spirogyra* at first, later we washed it, it was still color green but d black tank did not change our water color or anytn, he even advised us to paint d blue tank..black. I avnt done any research on it bfor o so abeg don't quote me, I just said wat I have seen.

Back to the question. Well, it's obvious why black tanks are preferable. Black tanks do not illuminate. The base of the tank is dark and that doesn't encourage the growth of algae which is responsible for the green coloration in water.

Black prevent the penetration of sunlight thereby preventing the growth of those green stuffs inside the tank. If you use any other color, the sunlight will penetrate and you will notice the growth of the green stuffs.

I believe it keeps d water cool, though I may be wrong.
