In corporate or business settings is it expected that we are formal?
In America, greetings are generally informal. Most times not indented to show lack of respect or take the older person for granted, but it’s simply associated with the belief of an average American that everyone is equal.
In corporate or business settings is it expected that we are formal, some Americans do not shake hands with others at social gatherings. Instead, they most times greet with casual “Hello” or “Hi” in larger gatherings, many may not greet you at all.Men and youth most times greet with handshakesTThe handshakes are usually brief while women use a firm clench because Light handshakes are considered unpleasant.
But greetings in Africa, mostly in South-west of Nigeria occupied by the “Yorubas” is seen in a different light. The Yoruba people prostrate when greeting an elderly person or someone who is older. The word “Eku” is attached to their greetings, “Eku” is used for someone who is older or sometimes one’s age mate. Though all occasion or season has its distinct greetings, an average Yoruba greets at every opportunity. Before now the men prostrate wholly on the ground and the ladies go on their knees with their hands placed backward to greet. Today it’s different.Though very few people still prostrate but most people casually bow.
